  • Great fitness questions podcast

Been listening to this for a couple years now.

I’m a lifelong runner, cross trainer, cyclist, hiker. 66 years young, and on a journey to stay healthy, injury free and flexible.

This is by nature, a listener questions generated podcast. So, you may hear the same topics discussed even within the same episode. I get a lot of perspective on my personal workouts from Dan’s comments, and usually listen while working out.

  • Grumpy, Mean Spirited, and Egotistical

Same old topics, same brags, way too much meandering. Grumpy Dan needs to go back to the drawing board. Used to be a big fan. Last few books are rambling repeats. Money grabs. It’s too bad, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, but now he talks down and offers nothing new. And News Flash Dan. If it takes you 300 pages to discuss ES and then we buy it and you complain that people have questions, maybe you’re the problem. You ramble and frankly, for an educated man with as many published books as you ha... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 350 - Building Arms w KBs, ABF, KB Swings, Mobility, Training for Broken Bodies & More
Q: How should I maintain gains in non-prioritized areas during blocks focusing on Olympic lifts, hypertrophy, and conditioning?
Don't worry about maintaining every single capability at all times; after a block, gradually rebuild from a sensible starting point (recovery, easy deload, and progressive loading). He suggests year-round programming and doing build-up phases with predictable progression, plus smart deloads and break-in weeks to reintroduce movements.
EP 348 - ABF, Fat Loss, Single KB Training, KB Jerk, Mobility, Squats & More
Q: Nicholas asks for guidance on using ABF with limited equipment and a busy life, including suggestions for a plan around a newborn.
Dan emphasizes practical resources (ABF books, journals, community support) and proposes a two-day split (clean and press twice a week, ABC once) to balance strength, mobility, and time constraints.
EP 347 - Easy Strength, KB Snatch, Building & Losing Muscle, KB Swings & More
Q: Simon asks about distance versus elevation in hiking, consistency of habit formation, and a plan to lose fat while maintaining activity.
Dan emphasizes habit formation over inspiration or motivation, recommends a clear daily swing target (e.g., 125 swings), and advises combining consistent kettlebell work with a sustainable caloric plan.
EP 347 - Easy Strength, KB Snatch, Building & Losing Muscle, KB Swings & More
Q: Jake asks about doing Easy Strength for hypertrophy five days a week with one movement biased toward hypertrophy and adding accessory work.
Dan critiques the idea, suggests keeping core lifts and spreading volume across more days with a mix of higher reps and moderate loads, and warns about bench press alone when training solo.
EP 347 - Easy Strength, KB Snatch, Building & Losing Muscle, KB Swings & More
Q: Will asks about adapting easy strength for an ego-driven goal after an ultra marathon, including modifications for hypertrophy.
Dan discusses balancing hypertrophy work with strength in aging athletes, recommends limited extra accessory work, and outlines ways to structure two different weekly templates (AB and ABF2) to manage volume.
