  • Great fitness questions podcast

Been listening to this for a couple years now.

I’m a lifelong runner, cross trainer, cyclist, hiker. 66 years young, and on a journey to stay healthy, injury free and flexible.

This is by nature, a listener questions generated podcast. So, you may hear the same topics discussed even within the same episode. I get a lot of perspective on my personal workouts from Dan’s comments, and usually listen while working out.

  • Grumpy, Mean Spirited, and Egotistical

Same old topics, same brags, way too much meandering. Grumpy Dan needs to go back to the drawing board. Used to be a big fan. Last few books are rambling repeats. Money grabs. It’s too bad, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, but now he talks down and offers nothing new. And News Flash Dan. If it takes you 300 pages to discuss ES and then we buy it and you complain that people have questions, maybe you’re the problem. You ramble and frankly, for an educated man with as many published books as you ha... more

EP 368 - Easy Strength & ABF Rotation, Resistance Bands, Training During Busy Times & More
Q: What should I do to train when life is chaotic and time is scarce, especially for a new parent or someone with a busy schedule?
Focus on short, repeatable workouts that stress foundational movements and allow for easy progression, like a few sets of goblet squats, carries, and bodyweight work, plus a daily 20-30 minute walk; use loaded carries and simple overhead pressing variations to maintain strength with minimal equipment and time.
EP 367 - ABF, Training Once a Week, Easy Strength, Overtraining, Getting a Coach & More
Q: How should an older athlete approach coaching and recovery?
Choose a coach who has real-world experience, maintain ongoing recovery through mobility work, massages, hot/cold therapy, and non-training activities like walking with a partner, ensuring training is sustainable and aligned with overall life goals.
EP 367 - ABF, Training Once a Week, Easy Strength, Overtraining, Getting a Coach & More
Q: What tips would you give to someone training once a week with kettlebells?
Do clean and press with two kettlebells or a barbell if available, and rotate through the running-back complex, armor-building complex, and a sandbag medley; if only one day is possible, focus on the clean–press pattern and a rolling plan across the week.
EP 367 - ABF, Training Once a Week, Easy Strength, Overtraining, Getting a Coach & More
Q: What movements would you prioritize in Easy Strength for an Ironman athlete?
Prioritize a five-movement core: overhead press, vertical pull (chin-ups), hinge/deadlift variation, ab wheel, and suitcase carry, with the option to add swings for fat loss programs but not as a priority for endurance-focused athletes; keep sessions 30–40 minutes, four days a week.
EP 367 - ABF, Training Once a Week, Easy Strength, Overtraining, Getting a Coach & More
Q: What would a hybrid running–kettlebell event look like?
I proposed several concepts, including a lightweight, safety-conscious sequence with 24 kg kettlebell movements followed by 400-meter runs, or a more extended interval format combining swings, cleans, presses, and runs within a half-hour window; the emphasis is on safety, pacing, and scalable difficulty.
