Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Beyond Traditional Metrics: Lean Accounting & Cash Flow with Special Guest Mark DeLuzio
Q: If you had a one number to show a CEO, or if as you're doing consulting, you have one number to show a CEO, what would it be, and why?
DeLuzio's preferred financial measure is operating free cash flow as a percentage of net income. It captures the effects of working capital and capital expenditures, and he aims for a ratio above 100 percent because it indicates that the business is generating cash beyond reported income.
Beyond Traditional Metrics: Lean Accounting & Cash Flow with Special Guest Mark DeLuzio
Q: When finance says that utilization makes the part cheaper, what is the sentence that you want in the room during that conversation?
DeLuzio explains that utilization incentives can encourage batch production and excess inventory, while traditional accounting measures may obscure cash use and promote behaviors that conflict with lean principles. He favors directly charging costs where they occur and measuring operations in ways that support better decisions.
From the Shop Floor to the Boardroom: Principles Over Tools with Nathan Corliss
Q: Give us a real example of a time that leadership thought one thing was true and the frontline knew that something different was true. And what happened and how did you get that gap closed?
At a healthcare clinic, leaders blamed nurses and patients for late appointments. By observing the patient flow, Corliss identified overlapping appointment starts, limited nursing capacity, and doctors delayed by academic rounds. Scheduling changes and a digital visual management board helped coordinate available staff and improve flow.
From the Shop Floor to the Boardroom: Principles Over Tools with Nathan Corliss
Q: Was there a specific person in your life who saw something in you before you saw it in yourself?
Corliss recalls Earl Walker, the owner of his first manufacturing employer, who noticed his work ethic, moved him into increasingly skilled roles, and sent him to technical school. Other leaders also gave him opportunities throughout his career.
