  • Check Off

As a person who has been fighting for more transparency and ability for producers to directly have a say/vote in how their check off dollars are spent. I was pretty disappointed in the interview not asking any critical questions. Really turned me off enough to unfollow the show.

How to Monitor Water Quality for Beef Cattle
Q: What should producers do if tests show elevated sulfates or nitrates?
Submit samples to a lab for a comprehensive analysis, consider fencing or hauling water in the short term, and plan long-term water-supply improvements.
How to Monitor Water Quality for Beef Cattle
Q: How often should producers test water before turning animals into new pastures?
At minimum, test prior to turning animals onto pasture to ensure safety, and increase frequency during drought when concentrations rise.

Source geology and whether the water comes from springs, ponds, or wells largely determine salinity, sulfates, and nitrates, which in turn affect animal health and performance.
How to Protect Profit During Drought
Q: How should producers prepare before drought hits to protect profits?
Calculate carrying capacity accurately, set stocking rates below carrying capacity, plan for drought through stock density management, diversify grazing parcels, and build a preemptive de-stocking and market-plan that can be activated when rainfall is insufficient.
