  • Great variety of perspectives and expertise

I have enjoyed and appreciated that throughout the past few podcasts, Jared has not shied away from sharing his faith but has rather embraced it, preaching the good news and glorifying the Lord. It’s been an encouragement to myself and I hope many others can say the same.

  • Wasting time

You are a very poor questioner. It is painful listening to you. You waste so much time on nonsense with your guests. It usually takes about 20 minutes before you actually ask your guest and intelligent question, then let them answer. I’m sorry. But it is too difficult

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

286: James Paul Bailey - Cattle Ranching and Chicken Farming
Q: How do you plan for the future and what does 'enough' mean to you?
Enough is personal and evolving; there is a struggle between ambition and contentment, with the guest hoping to balance expansion with family needs and spiritual considerations.
286: James Paul Bailey - Cattle Ranching and Chicken Farming
Q: What's your approach to land ownership versus renting?
Renting is a practical approach in his area, with ownership pursued selectively where it directly enables production and cash flow, while land remains primarily an investment potentially passed to heirs.
286: James Paul Bailey - Cattle Ranching and Chicken Farming
Q: What role does debt play in your business decisions?
Debt enabled the poultry operation and is a tool when used to generate income; the speaker acknowledges past missteps but emphasizes debt should be managed to support cash flow and growth rather than become a burden.
286: James Paul Bailey - Cattle Ranching and Chicken Farming
Q: How do you manage stocking rate and why is it tied to carrying capacity?
Stocking rate is a business decision tied to carrying capacity; you set a percentage of carrying capacity you're comfortable managing, using weather, forage, and drought risk to adjust, with 70-80% being a common profitability range.
286: James Paul Bailey - Cattle Ranching and Chicken Farming
Q: What were the early opportunities you looked at before committing to poultry barns?
I explored teaching and traditional cattle, but debt-heavy poultry houses ultimately provided the steady cash flow that allowed me to return to farming full-time, with my family benefiting from the predictability of the poultry income.
