  • I am involved in agriculture in Nebraska and try to continue to integrate Regenerative principles all the time. I really enjoy Clay's podcast because he provides loads of information to help educate and encourage people in regenerative agriculture. The best part for me is how he includes the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and how he helps educate people on how we are stewards of the land God has given us to take care of.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Teddy Gentry of Alabama Developed and Protected the South Poll Grass Cattle Breed (WCP 500)
Q: So what about the composite breed, who were the people who introduced you to that direction?
Several old cattlemen influenced the move toward a composite, notably Roy Beebe and Frank Felton, who showed how combining Barzona, Hereford, Red Angus, and Centipede could yield a commercially viable, heat-tolerant, and tender beef line, and how the hair and tenderness traits evolved over generations.
The Integral Role of Regenerative Agriculture in Revitalizing Rural Communities (WCP 493)
Q: Desi, you're going to be speaking at the South Dakota Grassland Initiative coming up here in a few weeks. What is your focus?
I'll be talking about conservation community and they're very intertwined. We have organizations that want to support conservation on the ground, and maybe sometimes the community side gets forgotten about.
The Marketing Flexibility that Comes from Composite Cattle (WCP 489)
Q: Can you explain your management style for the cattle?
Cattle are grazed on stockpiled forage without extra feed resources, focusing on natural grazing behavior and resilience.
The Marketing Flexibility that Comes from Composite Cattle (WCP 489)
Q: What unique features does your composite breed have?
The composite breed includes Angus, Simmental, Hereford, and Gelbvieh, each selected for specific traits like mothering ability, fertility, and survivability.
The Marketing Flexibility that Comes from Composite Cattle (WCP 489)
Q: What motivated you to develop a composite breed of cattle?
Mason's motivation stemmed from the need to change inefficient practices; he recognized that crossbreeding could enhance fertility and longevity while reducing costs.
