The BHP is a chronological retelling of the history of Britain with a particular focus upon the lives of the people. You won’t find a dry recounting of dates and battles here, but instead you’ll learn about who these people were and how their desires, fears, and flaws shaped the scope of this island at the edge of the world. And some of those desires are downright scandalous.

The death of Duke Robert’s chief ally, William of Breteuil, and the succession crisis it kicked off, was destabilizing the duchy of Normandy. And while I’m sure it was a relief that King Henry and Robert of Meulan had brokered a sort of resolution to... more
It was 1103 and things were a mess. And…when are they not? But a major reason for this mess was (oddly) William of Breteuil. Now, as you might recall, William of Breteuil was the firstborn son of the Conqueror’s close friendWilliam fitz Osbern… and, ... more
For the first time since William the Conqueror, there was going to be a primatial council at Westminster Abbey. This was a HUGE deal. Like… enormous. Anselm had been trying to hold a major reform council for years, but King Rufus had refused. Reform,... more
Ok, let’s return to 1101 and 1102, because Henry’s fight with Anselm, and fight between Henry and the Pope (and the fight between Anselm and the Pope) were …amazingly….only half of the story.

The title says it all…….also witty, full of humour and irony (a very British skill)…..makes me laugh all
The time. On a serious note, fantastical research, and even being a long time history buff; Jamie is educating me even at the age of 60. Keep
It going mate , all the way to sorry days Britain now finds itself.
This show has been engaging and informative. The slower pace helps the history have a depth breadth that is often difficult to do in a shorter and faster format. Jamie has an amazing voice and is a thorough researcher. I have listened to this for 10 years and will still drop everything I’m doing whenever an episode drops to listen to it. Great, but I will suggest you start from the beginning!
I’ve been listening since 2021 and was hooked right away. This is the most comprehensive history you’ll find anywhere, very well researched all while managing to be entertaining. Highly recommend listening and subscribing to member extras.
There is honestly no other podcast out there that gives you such depth and detail on British history, but with down to earth laugh out loud humor that is utterly relatable.
Jamie Jeffers is a host that you’d wished you’d had in every single history class in school.
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
You’ll get dawn in to this Master Class of history and go through withdrawal while you wait for the next episode to drop.
Highly HIGHLY recommend this podcast.
Love the depth of episodes into the lives and documents of each era. Jamie does a fantastic job bringing history to life
