Fantastic to finally get a podcast dedicated to this topic. Love the size of episodes and thoroughly enjoying the dive into the civil war
Some time in 2023 Sam found a new way to drive paid subscriptions - more annoying ads.
2 min in the beginning, 1.5 in the middle and 2 more in the end. 10% of each episode are moronic ads of other podcasts.
So i advise you to pay for subscription or stay away for good.
Good old days of mattress ads were better.
I like most of the topics. Regardless of the subject matter, the show is always thoughtful and reliably researched. Well done.
I recommend it. Very interesting and listenable.
So many commercials
The show is unenjoyable because of so many commercials. Plus welcomes and thanks. Not worth it. Too bad.

A narrative history podcast that explores the rise and fall of a global empire, with a focus on politics, diplomacy, war, and cultural exchange across centuries. Episodes blend deep archival insight with engaging storytelling, often featuring expert guests who illuminate complex periods and events. Noteworthy for its rigorous research, accessible narration, and a tendency to balance continental mainland history with imperial peripheries, making it appealing to both students and general history enthusiasts. A standout quality is the host's clear passion and dry humor, which helps contextualize dense material without sacrificing scholarly rigor.
