This my re-telling of the story of England. I aim to be honest, and rigorous - but always loving of my country's history. It is a regular, chronological podcast, starting from the end of Roman Britain. There are as many of the great events I can squeeze in, of course, but I also try to keep an eye on how people lived, their language, what was important to them, the forces that shaped their lives a... more

Best podcast with the most inane and grating ads I have ever heard. They make it hard to listen to too many podcasts in a row.
Best in the podcasting business. He’s been doing it so long he goes by venerable just like Bede .
Fantastic work! Interesting history communicated by a very funny man who is passionate about history. I highly recommend David Crowther’s podcast!
The History of England has been one of my favourite podcasts for years, and it is one that I recommend wherever I can.
David’s enthusiasm and passion for the subject is only matched by the quality of his writing, and his ability to make the complex characters and tricky narrative simple and engaging. I’m not even going to mark it down for the occasional dad joke, because I have actually enjoyed one or two of them.
I have been listening to this from the beginning back in 2016. I have finally caught up and during that time I also became a member. So now that I am caught up I am listening to the other shows he has made.
