This my re-telling of the story of England. I aim to be honest, and rigorous - but always loving of my country's history. It is a regular, chronological podcast, starting from the end of Roman Britain. There are as many of the great events I can squeeze in, of course, but I also try to keep an eye on how people lived, their language, what was important to them, the forces that shaped their lives a... more

I don’t know when I have enjoyed a podcast more.
I’ve been listening to this podcast for over half of a decade. It has only gotten better. My gold standard for a history podcast.
OK, this podcast can move a little slow at times but is delivered with such wry wit that you can’t help but hang on. I also learned lots of Britishisms such as “oikes” and “popped his clogs” that too makes it worth the trip.
Absolutely superb series tracing the history of England. Beautifully explained, analysed and interpreted, often with a touch of humour and pineapples.
Best podcast with the most inane and grating ads I have ever heard. They make it hard to listen to too many podcasts in a row.
