  • Obnoxious ads

Lately it’s been difficult to listen to this typically 5 star podcast. The integration of ads happens so abruptly and can happen in the middle of someone’s sentence. Then the ad is so obnoxious (casino ads especially) and completely ruins the vibe of listening thoughtful and sometimes in-depth analysis of scientific papers. I haven’t been able to get through as many shows. I thought you should know. Perhaps some thought going into production /transitions could help. Please listen to the ads your... more

  • 5 stars!

I have learned a lot from this podcast. My favorites are the episodes with Tony - so informative! A request - an episode about strength training with hypermobility, which seems to get even more challenging in perimenopause.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Best of The Body Pod: The Truth About Menopause and Hormones for Women Over 40 with Dr. Louise Newson
Q: Is it a must to have HRT after menopause or perimenopause?
It's an individual choice, but not taking hormones can carry health risks; the decision should weigh the risks of not having hormones against the benefits, with information on cardiovascular disease and dementia as long‑term considerations.
Best of The Body Pod: The Truth About Menopause and Hormones for Women Over 40 with Dr. Louise Newson
Q: Is estrogen dominance real?
Estrogen dominance is a simplification; the balance of hormones, including low progesterone and testosterone at times, is what matters, and timing of blood tests can mislead if not interpreted in context.
Best of The Body Pod - Stronger Bones After 40: Dr. Lisa Moore on Osteoporosis, Bone Health & Midlife Fitness
Q: What role do nutrition and supplements play in bone health beyond calcium and vitamin D?
Protein is essential for bone matrix formation; aim for about 1.2–1.5 g/kg of ideal body weight. Boron via prunes supports bone density, magnesium supports bone matrix, and vitamin K2 helps direct calcium to bone.
Best of The Body Pod - Stronger Bones After 40: Dr. Lisa Moore on Osteoporosis, Bone Health & Midlife Fitness
Q: Is heavy lifting safe for someone with osteoporosis or osteopenia, and how should they start?
Yes, but it must be individualized with proper progressions, spinal extension control, and gradual loading. Start with strength training, progress to heavier loads only when form and safety are solid, and incorporate movement in multiple planes.
Best of The Body Pod - Stronger Bones After 40: Dr. Lisa Moore on Osteoporosis, Bone Health & Midlife Fitness
Q: What differentiates osteopenia from osteoporosis and how should someone respond when diagnosed?
Osteopenia is a risk factor for osteoporosis, shown on a bone density test with a more negative T-score; it signals a need to act early with safe strength training and lifestyle changes to prevent progression to osteoporosis.
