  • Educating the uneducated

I just got diagnosed (I think?!) with Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia. I’ve barely been sick in my 36 years of life and never did human biology at school. So I’ve got no idea and this is so new to me and a struggle to wrap my head around. But this podcast has been very helpful and fairly easy to understand, thank you!!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

082 - Dr. Taylor Talks: What Causes Autoimmune Disease?
Q: What does it mean when the immune system loses the ability to distinguish self from non-self?
It means tolerance has been lost—the immune system no longer recognizes self-tissues as safe, leading to ongoing attack on the body's own tissues, which is the essence of autoimmune disease.
078 - The Autoimmune Hotline: Dr Taylor Answers Your Top Questions
Q: How do you detox effectively from mycotoxins in children with PANS/PANDAS or similar conditions?
Detox concepts revolve around balancing the immune system, using binders and glutathione, and supporting liver and gut health, but detox is not a simple bind-and-cleanse; the immune problem must be addressed, and detox strategies should be targeted, staged, and appropriate to the child's specific clinical picture with caution to avoid over-detoxification.
078 - The Autoimmune Hotline: Dr Taylor Answers Your Top Questions
Q: How do you approach PCOS in the context of autoimmune support?
PCOS management focuses on insulin and testosterone considerations, with a broader lab-based view including vitamin D and overall gut and toxin considerations; there is no single pancreas-specific protocol; instead, treatment is tailored to the individual based on labs, symptoms, and a pro-growth state assessment of the body.
078 - The Autoimmune Hotline: Dr Taylor Answers Your Top Questions
Q: What do you typically use for nutritional support in Hashimoto's patients?
In Hashimoto's, gluten-free is a baseline recommendation because gluten commonly exacerbates autoimmune issues; beyond that, the approach leans on a paleo-like dietary pattern with high fiber and diverse, nutrient-dense foods to support gut health, while individual labs guide whether to supplement specific nutrients like iodine or selenium depending on deficiencies.
078 - The Autoimmune Hotline: Dr Taylor Answers Your Top Questions
Q: What is the fastest approach to decreasing inflammation for someone who is inflamed?
The quick take is to use anti-inflammatory strategies such as turmeric and resveratrol, recognizing that while they can help, exact dosing varies and they are not a substitute for addressing underlying causes or medical guidance; in addition, foundational steps include anti-inflammatory diet, gut health considerations, and evaluating whether acute anti-inflammatories are appropriate in the moment.
