245. Alcohol, Creativity, and Emotional Avoidance with Ezra Vancil
Q: What role did alcohol play in your early creative life?
Alcohol initially unlocked confidence and eased social barriers, but over time it became the solution to deeper loneliness and stopped his emotional growth, which exacerbated life crises.
246. I Had All The Answers… But Still Couldn’t Stop Drinking - Interview with Paul
Q: What did you learn about yourself and alcohol that helped you make the switch to stop drinking?
I learned that I had to be kind to myself, replace guilt with constructive self-reflection, and actively reframe my life around meaningful activities rather than around drinking. Coaching helped translate my internal answers into practical steps, and intentional self-talk became a daily tool to stay on track.
246. I Had All The Answers… But Still Couldn’t Stop Drinking - Interview with Paul
Q: What was life like before you reached out for coaching, and what prompted you to start changing?
I was in a grim place after separating; I was drinking heavily to blank things out and it affected work, relationships, and health. Reaching out began as a search for guidance and accountability, and it opened a path to rethink activities, self-talk, and daily plans that could support real change.
244. Relationships, Alcohol & Loving Power with Monica Tanner
Q: What would you want to share about the consequences of the phrase 'happy wife, happy life' and why it's problematic?
She explains that the phrase places an unequal burden on one partner and argues for a shift toward 'happy spouse, happy house' where both partners contribute to each other's happiness and the health of the relationship.
