  • Never misses

Quickly becoming my favourite podcast. Payson is a natural communicator and interviewer (and also one who does his research on each guest), who seems to put all his guests at ease and get the best and previously untold stories (as much the non-cycling as the cycling) out of every interview.

Great episode with Haley. She’s a great cyclist and your podcast is a fantastic way to learn more about the riders beyond their cycling career. I love Haley’s style and down to earth persona. 🇺🇸🇨🇦👍

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Maddie Munro on battling the mud to her first World Cup podium
Q: How did you handle the weather and mud when you realized it would be muddy and you might need different tires?
We held a team meeting, evaluated tire options with the skills coach and mechanics, did a pre-ride lap, and adjusted our strategy last minute to use a very narrow beaver tire with appropriate pressure, aiming for balance and reliability.
Maddie Munro on battling the mud to her first World Cup podium
Q: What was it like going to South Korea for a race and starting the World Cup in a completely new place?
It was exciting and new—an Asia debut with a lot to take in, but the team helped us stay focused on the race; the experience with Giant Korea before race week also added to the overall preparation and culture immersion.
Lauren Stephens and Levi Leipheimer on Levi's GranFondo
Q: Okay, let's talk about Levi's. So this has got to be kind of like, in some ways, your dream US race. What were your thoughts going in? Who were you watching?
Levi explains the race's depth, the importance of teamwork and preparation, and how his approach combines climbing strength with strategic racing to defend or attack as the race unfolds.
Lauren Stephens and Levi Leipheimer on Levi's GranFondo
Q: Okay, Lauren, I don't know that we've ever had you on the podcast, so we need to do like a full length episode at some point, but this is going to be Levi's focus. But before we talk about Levi's, I want to hear a little bit about Hila, because you just finished stage two today.
Yeah, I race a fairly normal amount for a road racer, balancing the schedule between road and gravel, and I'm using road racing to prepare for gravel races while building a team and a pathway for young riders to reach Europe.
Brennan Wertz on his unexpected Levi's GranFondo podium
Q: What was your approach to pacing in a long break like this? How do you balance going fast on climbs with maintaining a gap?
Pacing was about smooth, consistent effort rather than max power on every segment; the goal was to keep the gap by leveraging momentum, riding efficiently through the terrain, and communicating with teammates to maintain collective speed without burning matches.
