  • Fantastic, but not for kids

Great podcast with fantastic hosts and lots of interesting discussions. Be warned though it’s not for kids, despite Steve’s involvement, as many of the episodes have sexual content. A parent advisory at the beginning of the episodes would be the responsible thing to do.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Q&A: Evolution Oddities, Pet Reptiles and Saving Rainforests
Q: What moment in the field changed the way you look at wildlife?
A field experience in Sri Lanka with elephants exposed the cognitive and social complexities of wildlife living in conflict zones, prompting a deeper appreciation of how humans and wildlife interact and the need for better coexistence strategies.
Q&A: Evolution Oddities, Pet Reptiles and Saving Rainforests
Q: What is the point of marsupials given their reproductive strategy?
Marsupials are not a failed intermediate stage; their evolution shows a successful, distinct strategy that has allowed them to thrive in varied environments, with their reproductive adaptation driven by environmental pressures and the need for flexible offspring survival.
Q&A: Evolution Oddities, Pet Reptiles and Saving Rainforests
Q: What would you recommend for someone considering a pet reptile in terms of due diligence and ethics?
Do your due diligence by avoiding high-street shops that feel shady, choose established sources, and start with an easier species like corn snakes or even invertebrates; ensure the animal has a stable environment, proper feeding schedules, and regular handling to provide educational value without cruelty.
Q&A: Snow Leopard Close Calls, Desert Masters and Spiders Cleaning Up
Q: From Jan Baxter: have you seen reports of a snow leopard attack on a woman taking a selfie, and what's your memory of snow leopards' behavior around humans?
Steve shares that while incidents are rare and often sensationalized, snow leopards are usually wary of people; in the Bhutan encounter he observed close but ultimately they typically avoid humans, with an attack likely tied to an inexperienced, hungry individual and an unexpected prey item.
Shark Man Dan: Walking Sharks, Strange Species and Wild Ocean Stories
Q: What was the significance of the thresher shark jump sequence and why did it matter for the show?
The moment captured a dramatic natural event that showcased the thrill of shark encounters while underscoring the role of on-camera teamwork in delivering memorable wildlife moments, even when points weren't gained in competition.
