  • Dip in and out- amazing!

This is the best podcast that I didn’t know that I needed. These different subject podcasts are so relevant to anyone with preteens or teens to just dip in and out when you’re faced with a challenging situation, which lets be honest happens about five times a week with teenagers. Educational, relatable, engaging with presenters and guests that are nonjudgemental. A fresh perspective and a little coparent in your pocket!! Fantastic!!

  • Every parent should listen

I have gained so many insights into being a parent, what my teens are going through and what they’re likely to go through. It’s reinforced my views but also given me a new perspective on what I could be doing differently. So many different subjects all handled in a very non judgmental and sensitive way. Thank you so much, every parent should listen to your podcasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What Teens Are Trying to Tell Us: The Crisis of Connection and Masculinity
Q: What are the four major themes from your longitudinal work, and how do they apply to today's teens?
The four themes are: deep secret friendships and emotional intelligence; mental health as a symptom of social health; a shift in boys' expressions of sadness and anger toward a crisis of connection; and cultural ideologies that privilege hard over soft. These themes show that teens crave meaningful connections and that adults need to listen and foster relational skills.
The Hidden Problem of Teen Gambling — and What Parents Can Do
Q: What should a parent say first when they suspect gambling?
Approach with curiosity and ask open-ended questions about spending habits, goals, and recent purchases to open up a dialogue without triggering defensiveness.
Parenting Thriving Teens using Science
Q: Now, Katy, in your book, you explain how modern life hijacks the teenage reward system through screens, gaming, junk food, social media. What should parents understand about dopamine that completely changes how they approach teen behaviour?
Parents should recognize that teens are navigating a rewards landscape that the industry designs to be highly engaging. The key is to listen, discuss the teen's own goals, and collaborate on boundaries that reduce daily, easy rewards while supporting long-term goals, so teens can choose more meaningful activities with less nagging and more autonomy.
The Vital Skill Parents Can Teach Teens and Tweens: Critical Thinking
Q: What is critical thinking and why does it matter in teenage life?
Critical thinking is the systematic process of evaluating information, recognizing emotional responses, checking evidence, and considering multiple viewpoints before forming judgments, which helps teens navigate misinformation and social media with greater agency.
Parenting in High-Conflict Homes: Protecting Your Kids When Your Partner Won’t Change
Q: How does your framework apply in real relationships when people are activated in conflict?
The framework helps create space to observe urges, explore the underlying needs, and try alternative responses such as giving partners choices or using ear statements to reduce escalation.
