  • Still Here is the public health news source we all need in the age of covid denialism. With a strong mix of science and research, public policy, and personal stories, it's structured in a way that's very NPR-style and makes for a great listen while doing housework. Personally, I listen on 1.2x speed because the hosts speak a little too slowly for my listening preferences, and I wish the podcast had more scoring, but these personal preferences do not by any means outweigh how important this podca... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Interview: Epidemiologist Caitlin Rivers on interpreting COVID-19, other disease data
Q: How do you view vaccine access and planning for the fall?
Access is a major concern; while approvals exist for some groups, real-world uptake is hampered by supply and distribution logistics, so consumers may face barriers even as the options appear available.
Interview: Epidemiologist Caitlin Rivers on interpreting COVID-19, other disease data
Q: Why is identifying season onset or peak so difficult?
Because these are periods of change with lagging data and often subtle signals, it's easy to misread a blip for a trend; transparent communication about uncertainty helps people form their own judgments.
Interview: Epidemiologist Caitlin Rivers on interpreting COVID-19, other disease data
Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of wastewater versus clinical indicators?
Wastewater is good for tracking trends and inflection points, but it doesn't map cleanly to individuals; clinical indicators like ED visits offer comparability across pathogens and seasons, which helps in making local interpretations.
Interview: Epidemiologist Caitlin Rivers on interpreting COVID-19, other disease data
Q: What data sources do you use as you're writing your updates?
Rivers primarily relies on CDC data, with wastewater, ED visits, and test positivity as core indicators, supplementing with backup sources when needed to cover all pathogens she tracks.
7/11/25: Why some ME, Long COVID specialists charge high prices for concierge care
Q: What options for self-advocacy and care did you hear about from folks living with these illnesses?
Readers suggested practical steps, such as using specialty resource collections, seeking out patient-driven reviews of providers, and leveraging emerging online resources like Help for Long COVID to compare provider availability and care options beyond traditional channels.
