  • So many great things here!

My favorite part about this podcast is getting to listen in to real coaching conversations. This an an invaluable experience. But Steve also shares so much wisdom, and he lets us in on his thought processes. Many of his episodes are also geared to classroom teachers, not just coaches, which makes it easy to share his insights with teachers. I’m just sorry I only recently discovered this podcast!

Redefining Resistance
Q: What is the role of listening in diagnosing resistance?
Listening, especially reflective listening, helps uncover the root causes by validating what the other person is expressing and revealing the underlying values and needs driving their behavior.
Redefining Resistance
Q: How do you diagnose the root causes of resistance rather than labeling someone as resistant?
By listening for underlying beliefs and using the Catalyst Mindsets framework to identify which mindsets are unsupported, then applying targeted supports and reflective listening to uncover true needs.

Because resistance often signals underlying unmet needs, and understanding those needs helps coaches guide change more effectively rather than merely enforcing compliance.
