Stephen Fry discusses his new five-part BBC series, Fry's Planet Word, at the Apple Store, Covent Garden in London.
So knowledgeable and interesting
Fry is of course renown for the breadth of his general knowledge, unfortunately he has here relied on his reputation to enliven his audience rather than content.
It is clear that Fry has not prepared or researched this performance. He lists a few blindingly obvious and well known facts in a dithering, repetitive, rabbit-in-the-headlights delivery which is irritating to listen to. The piece has no structure and offers no insight or information not already plain to any reasonable individual.

Stephen fry is the 8th wonder of the world!!! That is
Well done mr Fry ,great to hear you explain the backwards expression of English I have tried to demonstrate this to friends but your way of saying it was simply clear , one thing about language I would like to see taken on and changed is the terrible way our new digital age is twisting language , not only text abbreviations but this senseless way our geniuses in digital communication can’t even fit a title on an object ie: TV guides radio , websites podcasts etc . I wish someone would take on th... more
I listened to this whilst sanding some white kitchen cupboard doors.
I’m just a bit worried I won’t be able to find something as enjoyable and interesting if I ever have to do that again.
Interesting & enthralling as always. No distortion from the Spofel
I was there and this podcast isn't quite like being front row but it's a great reminder of the wonderful time I had that day. This lecture shows us how extraordinary language is. Fry talks about discovering his love of language through Oscar Wilde, the complexities of language and how we can appreciate it. Stephen Fry speaks articulately and puts his points across very well. He is always a pleasure to listen to and I shall never get bored of him, ever! I was lucky enough to meet him after the le... more
It's sad that this conference only lasts 60 minutes. It is absolutely wonderful.
I really found this interesting. As some one with a passing interest in language it has encouraged me to read more in to the subject - and watch the show!
The most interesting podcast I've heard. Very engaging and insightful!
Stephen Fry, always enthralling :)
Always a pleasure to marinate in Mr. Fry's intelligence.
If it's Fry, it's good!
Stephen Fry is undoubtedly a most fascinating and brilliant man. He apparently can make any topic interesting and informative.
His talk on language is superb and it is always such a pleasure to learn new facts in a way that is also entertaining.
What a beautiful combination: wit and intelligence.
A very interesting topic of discussion made only more entertaining in that way it was spoken about by Stephen Fry! A very funny intelligent man, and a very good watch!
