  • Love podcast sammi

In this last episode there was a ton of discussion of going from short form socials to long form podcasts and I just want to say I LOVE the podcast. It gets so much more in depth, I can listen in the car, and I think you conduct great interviews. I know it takes a lot more work for less return, but I really appreciate it!

  • Thorough and Articulate

When I listen to Sammi break down a story I feel like I am listening to a thoughtful, thorough, and entertaining academic. She is so sharp and careful not to overstate things. She has a knack for picking the best things to discuss and keeps her content both interesting and informative. I am an attorney and she makes me wish I studied business! Luckily for me, I can learn a lot from her content. Keep up the incredible work, Sammi!

  • Relevant, succinct, and timely!

Sami, thanks for your show. I love that there is a mix of long and short shows and your topics are always on point and interesting! You get to the point quickly, always have a clear throughline, and I’m always left thinking about new angles.

Also… from one ex-Amazonian to another - you took all the best from the company, “raised the bar”, and are bringing your audience the brilliance of your instinct and know-how! :)

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jay Luchs (Newmark) on Building a Real Estate Empire, Strategy for Brick and Mortar, and Newbie Lease Mistakes
Q: What is a common blind spot founders have when first signing a retail lease?
Founders often underestimate the importance of the landlord relationship, market rent realities, and the need for a space that supports not just shopping but foot traffic, community energy, and the broader tenant mix that sustains a street.
Suzy Welch (NYU) on the Joy of Getting Fired, Decoding the 10/10/10 Method, and Why Most People Settle for a B+ Life
Q: What changes have you seen in students taking Becoming You, especially with AI and geopolitical shifts affecting career paths?
There is growing urgency and fear among students about AI and instability, so the course now offers three integrated pathways rather than a single purpose, giving people flexible options that align with their values, aptitudes, and interests.
Suzy Welch (NYU) on the Joy of Getting Fired, Decoding the 10/10/10 Method, and Why Most People Settle for a B+ Life
Q: You just reinvented the 10-10-10 framework. How should someone implement this framework into daily life?
Treat every decision as a test of the potential impacts across the next 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years, then compare those outcomes to your core values to choose the path that best aligns with your long-term life you want to create.
Listener Grab Bag: Career Risks, Leaving Corporate, and Building in Public
Q: What's a career bet you made that everyone around you thought was a bad idea, and how did it play out?
Sammi describes her shift from the corporate path through social media entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of following a belief in what you're building and testing ideas on the side before leaving a steady job. The answer highlights proof points and personal conviction as drivers for taking the leap.
Seth Goldman (Just Ice Tea) on Selling Honest Tea to Coca-Cola, Starting Again, and the Future of Food
Q: What system do you use to stay productive in your career?
I focus on daily exercise and time with nature to maintain humility and perspective, then bring that calm energy into business decisions.
