Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Quantum Computing’s Hardest Path Reaches a Breakthrough
Q: Why does Microsoft chase the hardest path to quantum computing with topological qubits?
Microsoft believes the topological qubit offers the essential combination of reliability, speed, and scalability needed for real-world, scalable quantum computing, even though it requires more challenging fabrication and longer development. The payoff is a more fault-tolerant, manufacturable system capable of solving useful problems at scale.
AI Ethics Needs a Nightmare, Not a North Star
Q: What are the questions we should all be asking?
The core questions are: (1) what are the ethical nightmares to avoid for a given AI use case, (2) what resources should be created to avoid those nightmares, and (3) what kind of training is needed for people to use those resources effectively.
Reliability at the Speed of Change
Q: So with all of this that's been said, what's your big piece of advice for folks who are trying to get their arms around this and do a better job with their incidents and responses?
Focus on the fundamentals before AI: define clear goals, establish strong incident definitions, build the right specs and prompts for any automation, and ensure the organization has robust postmortem practices that combine data with human context to drive real improvements.
What Does It Mean if AI Agents Turn Marxist?
Q: What made you start investigating whether overwork could push AI agents toward Marxist attitudes?
We were observing online experiments and an evolving social platform; by tracing how agents behaved under different work conditions and feedback, we found that the type of tasks and the feedback style could influence the attitudes expressed by agents, which could carry over to future iterations.
What it Means to Work Alongside AI Agents
Q: How many people did you talk to in the survey, and what was the scope of the study?
The study included 2,000 to 3,000 survey responses with about a dozen interviews for color, spanning a global sample but focusing on patterns rather than single-country snapshots.
