  • Really helpful for non-elite runners

I just discovered this podcast earlier this week and have already listened to almost all of the episodes that have been published. It's really helpful information for more casual runners and runners who are injury-prone like myself. I also appreciate that the episodes are short and to the point so I don't need to listen to an hour of content just to get a couple useful bits of information.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

RTTC #196 How to Incorporate Daily Walking into Your Running Routine
Q: I usually walk about an hour every day. The neighborhood I live in is extremely hilly, so most of the three and a half to four miles I walk is walking rather than running. How do I balance this with planned runs?
Keep walking as your baseline if it feels sustainable, then layer in run training on top based on how you feel, your recovery, and overall week load. Look for cues like persistent exhaustion, fueling, sleep, and stress; if these are off, back off the walking or adjust the pace. Hills can be used as built‑in workouts by alternating run and walk segments to gradually increase running without overloading. If needed, consider resting days or swapping walk days to more rest‑oriented days and progressively reintroduce running in waves while ensuring alignment with race goals.
RTTC #204 From 7-Hour Marathoner to 6:19 at Dopey… A Real runDisney Success Story with Amanda Mueller
Q: What changes did you make to your training and tapering that helped you achieve a sub-six-and-a-half marathon during Dopey weekend?
Amanda highlights a three-week taper, meticulous carbohydrate loading, and fueling strategy, plus trusting the plan and the coaching guidance to stay consistent and avoid overtraining, which together contributed to her faster marathon time.
RTTC #179 Can I Break Up a 16 Mile Long Run Into 2 Short Runs to Train for runDisney Marathon or Dopey?
Q: Can I break up a 16-mile long run if I'm training for Run Disney Marathon or Dopey?
Yes, depending on your training history, injury status, and personal circumstances, it could be beneficial to break it up, especially if you've never done 16 miles before.
RTTC #170 Strength Training for Slow Runners Who Are New to Lifting with Betsy Foster
Q: How do you recommend women start unlearning exercise as punishment?
Lean into the exercises you enjoy, and view them as adding to your life rather than taking it away.
RTTC #142 Hip and Groin Pain Training for Wine and Dine and Dopey - What to Do Now
Q: What can runners do while managing pain during training?
Runners can engage in alternative endurance training such as walking, cycling, or other cross-training activities that do not exacerbate the pain, to maintain their cardiovascular fitness without running.
