  • Definitely one to add to your listening list!

A great podcast that is going from strength to strength! Starting with the Rokman athletes then branching out to some really interesting guests, it’s my new favourite podcast to run or tab to!

It’s great to hear a podcast ‘interviewer’ get involved in exploring the subject as well as the guest. Mental resilience is delved into through experiences, ideas and discussions in an easy to listen to and relatable way.

I loved the running punks! Two of my favourite things combined - running and music! Would be great to hook up with these chaps as they sound like a lot of fun.

Then…Jesus Christ… Dr Colin! What an amazing guy?! That episode is absolute gold. You NEED to listen to this!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How to Run a Faster Half Marathon Without the Nonsense
Q: How should a runner structure the weekly plan once in base/build phase?
A seven-day cycle with multiple easy runs (Zone 2), one day focused on threshold work, one longer easy run, and a separate session targeting speed/intervals, progressively increasing intensity or volume while keeping easy days easy to allow adaptation.
How to Run a Faster Half Marathon Without the Nonsense
Q: What should a half-marathon training plan look like for someone with 20 weeks to prepare?
Begin with a broad base of easy Zone 2 running, then introduce threshold work and hills to build speed endurance, followed by a specific half-marathon focus with longer runs and race-pace intervals. Progressions should be gradual and consistent, not reliant on a single 'magical' workout.
How to Run Fast at a Low Heart Rate
Q: How does math-based training differ from traditional heart-rate training like 220 minus age?
Math-based training uses a personalized ceiling (180 minus age, adjusted for injuries and training consistency) to define easy runs and ensure a durable aerobic base, with regular benchmark tests to track progress; when improvements plateau, speed work is added, all while maintaining overall high mileage without burnout.
How to Run Fast at a Low Heart Rate
Q: What are people getting wrong with their running training at the moment?
The host points to a widespread lack of knowledge online and the tendency to push for high-intensity training without a solid aerobic base, which leads to injuries and loss of enjoyment; the guest argues for building a base with easy runs and heart-rate-based limits, then gradually incorporating speed work as a well-constructed foundation forms.
How to You 2X Your Lifts with Wales' Strongest Man
Q: How do you structure your training cycle to peak for competition?
He follows 9- to 12-week plans with a deload at the end, starting with lighter work and progressively building to max effort, then tapering before a personal best attempt.
