Reviews

4.6 out of 5 stars from 405 ratings
  • I downloaded a few episodes today Sept 29,2025. I got less than 5 minutes in and can't stand the movie lines and sound bits added in. They were in the middle of reading an email that was sent in and kept stopping the dictation of the email to play stupid sound bites. It was terrible and unconsumable for me which is a shame because Frank is such a pillar of the ChooseFI Facebook community.

  • You’ll love it or hate it

I listened to a couple episodes of this podcast. The format is unconventional. You will either find it incredibly entertaining or terribly annoying. I’m not sure yet where I stand.

  • Interesting

This podcast is unique. I am a fan of any podcast that adds Napoleon Dynamite and Seinfeld clips although the amount of inserted clips is a bit much. I don’t agree with a lot of Frank’s takes, however, I like listening to someone who sees things differently than me. He has good motives, good passion, and a giving heart. I find the portfolio review portion of the podcast to be a bit much.

Episode 455: Transitions, Calculators And Golden Bucketeering!
Q: What should I do with my investments if my 401k options are limited?
Consider shifting some assets to bond funds even if they're not ideal, as managing risk is essential before retiring.
Episode 453: Managed Futures, Bengen's New Book, And Vanguard Personal Advisor Follies
Q: What should I keep in mind regarding the transition to a risk parity portfolio?
The transition should consider your financial goals, including how much you plan to spend versus save during retirement. It's important to maintain a balance that suits your personal financial situation.
Episode 453: Managed Futures, Bengen's New Book, And Vanguard Personal Advisor Follies
Q: I am curious about the risks and benefits of managed futures in my portfolio compared to the other alternative options.
Managed futures have essentially zero correlation to stocks and bonds, making them a unique addition to a diversified portfolio. They tend to perform well during high-inflation and deflationary environments.
Episode 452: Thanks Again For Your Generosity, Avoiding Calculator Jockeys, Calculation Shortcuts And Portfolio Reviews As Of September 5, 2025
Q: Can you further explain how you derive the 240 or 200 number you divide the monthly balance for distribution?
Frank explains that the 240 and 200 numbers are shortcuts for calculating monthly distributions from a portfolio based on an annual distribution percentage.
