  • Learn to love it

I began listening to rpr 4 years ago, initially the sound bites were annoying but the information and facts given are excellent. I grew to love sound bites. If you’re patient you’ll learn a wealth of information. Frank does this without any sponsors but out of his passion to teach others. I believe if you truly want to retire with the ability and confidence to spend money in retirement without your portfolio going broke then you’ll learn you can do it with this podcast. Five stars!!!

  • Life changing

Frank has a unique way of cutting through the noise—his 'beating of the drum' on evidence-based investing is exactly what I need to stay disciplined. More than just a podcast, it has given me the confidence to know that we’re going to be okay in retirement. In following and implementing much of his advice, I can’t thank Frank enough for the clarity and peace of mind he’s brought to our financial future.

  • The Best Investing Podcast

I’ve been listening to personal finance/investing podcasts for nearly 20 years, and this is one of my all time favorites. This is not your usual total stock market/total bond market chatter. It’s about real evidence-based multi asset class portfolios for those who want to minimize sequence of return risk and have higher safe withdrawal rates.

  • Good ideas, poor execution

At the end, I will tell you better podcasts to learn from instead.

    Frank’s ideas are interesting.

But his choice of podcast structure (yes, the sound effects) tells me he is more interested in tickling his own funny bone than educating people.

Just like his behavior on social media tells me he’s more interested in stroking his ego by being rude to people than he is in helping/educating people.

    It’s a shame.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 490: Queen Mary Segment With Jillian Johnsrud, Big Law Life, Alternative Assets And Four Quadrant Portfolio Construction Principles, And A Partial Retirement Withdrawal Scenario
Q: Two questions from Connor: Is the SCHG fund suitable for a large cap growth allocation, and what does it take to succeed as a big law attorney?
Yes, SCHG is a Schwab large-cap growth option similar to IWY or VUG, with broad diversification and typically low fees; in terms of a big law career, success hinges on stamina, fortitude, strong communication, reliability, and political acumen within the firm, not just raw intelligence.
Episode 489: Cowbell Direct Indexing, More Fun With Leverage, An Early Retirement Extra Spending Model And Portfolio Reviews As Of February 27, 2026
Q: How much leverage is appropriate for a retirement portfolio, and what form should it take?
The hosts suggest a range around 1.25x to 2x as a starting framework, with emphasis on using either margin or ETF-based leverage, and to prefer transparent, well-understood mechanisms over opaque composites.
Episode 488: All Hail Queen Mary And Fairfax CASA, Gold vs Managed Futures, And A Short-Term Drawdown Portfolio
Q: Would it be wiser to wait until stocks cool off before buying?
Market timing is discouraged; it's better to choose a diversified and comfortable allocation in equity index funds.
Episode 487: It's Mary Time, Intermediate Accumulation, 529s To Roths, And Leeroy Jenkins Gambling Problems
Q: How can I approach a listener's portfolio construction concerning high yield savings accounts versus risk parity portfolios?
Incorporating a risk parity portfolio instead of high yield savings accounts can yield better long-term performance, while also allowing flexible contributions to smooth out volatility.
Episode 487: It's Mary Time, Intermediate Accumulation, 529s To Roths, And Leeroy Jenkins Gambling Problems
Q: What is the best approach to model the use of a Roth IRA for a child that is not pursuing higher education?
Using a 529 plan, you can roll over unused funds to a Roth IRA under certain conditions, allowing contributions to be withdrawn tax-free and penalty-free for various uses, assuming eligibility requirements are met.
