  • Learn to love it

I began listening to rpr 4 years ago, initially the sound bites were annoying but the information and facts given are excellent. I grew to love sound bites. If you’re patient you’ll learn a wealth of information. Frank does this without any sponsors but out of his passion to teach others. I believe if you truly want to retire with the ability and confidence to spend money in retirement without your portfolio going broke then you’ll learn you can do it with this podcast. Five stars!!!

  • Life changing

Frank has a unique way of cutting through the noise—his 'beating of the drum' on evidence-based investing is exactly what I need to stay disciplined. More than just a podcast, it has given me the confidence to know that we’re going to be okay in retirement. In following and implementing much of his advice, I can’t thank Frank enough for the clarity and peace of mind he’s brought to our financial future.

  • The Best Investing Podcast

I’ve been listening to personal finance/investing podcasts for nearly 20 years, and this is one of my all time favorites. This is not your usual total stock market/total bond market chatter. It’s about real evidence-based multi asset class portfolios for those who want to minimize sequence of return risk and have higher safe withdrawal rates.

  • Good ideas, poor execution

At the end, I will tell you better podcasts to learn from instead.

    Frank’s ideas are interesting.

But his choice of podcast structure (yes, the sound effects) tells me he is more interested in tickling his own funny bone than educating people.

Just like his behavior on social media tells me he’s more interested in stroking his ego by being rude to people than he is in helping/educating people.

    It’s a shame.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 502: Spending More And Living More In Retirement, More On The Four Quadrant Model, Celebrating Our Listeners And Friends, And Portfolio Reviews As Of April 17, 2026
Q: What is the basis for placing assets in each quadrant of the four-quadrant model?
The host explains that the quadrants are based on growth and inflation regimes, with different assets historically performing better in each quadrant; however, the model is probabilistic and used mainly to teach diversification rather than predict exact outcomes.
Episode 503: Our Inspiring And Generous Listeners, Tweaking The Golden Ratio, And A Few Fund Questions
Q: Is there an ideal beta for the portfolio as a whole?
There is no single ideal beta; focus instead on how the portfolio performs in downturns and the resulting impact on safe withdrawal rates, as beta alone does not define long-term outcomes.
Episode 503: Our Inspiring And Generous Listeners, Tweaking The Golden Ratio, And A Few Fund Questions
Q: DBMF or CTA for the managed futures portion?
DBMF is closer to an index-like fund and generally more straightforward in a diversified portfolio; CTA is interesting but its active formulation makes it less predictable, so DBMF is preferable for most investors.
Episode 503: Our Inspiring And Generous Listeners, Tweaking The Golden Ratio, And A Few Fund Questions
Q: VOO or VUG, which should I include in the portfolio?
Stick with VOO to maintain a balance between growth and value, since VOO already provides exposure to growth and value components, whereas VUG would tilt more towards growth and reduce diversity.
Episode 499: Thanking Our Generous Listeners, Converting An Inefficient Vanguard Thingamablob, Assisting College-Age Kids, And Smiling With Sara
Q: How should the caller balance higher risk opportunities with the goal of a safe withdrawal rate for eight to ten years of retirement planning?
By modeling short retirement horizons using tools like Portfolio Charts and Portfolio Visualizer to assess safe withdrawal rates, and by testing scenarios with varying equity allocations (e.g., 25-30% up to 40-50%), while considering income from side jobs or inheritances to cushion the plan.
