好多人講本土歷史，忽略了新界這片大草原。新界以前有耕田有牛，亦有它濃厚的本土歷史。1898年，英國簽訂了《展拓香港界址專條》，租借新界99年。英政府決定於1899年在大埔升英國旗，惹來原居民以竹枝反抗，新墟青年展開一場反英戰，令英兵且戰且退，舊墟中年卻不動聲色，靜觀其變。新界抗英第一戰，還觸發了一場世代之爭。
