  • Great podcast

I really enjoy this. I am retired and wish I would have discovered it ten years before I retired. I relate to Alex’s humor and enjoy both hosts.

  • Alex, be quiet

Alex, Please stop interjecting and interrupting. Wade, speak up. The dual annoying delivery takes away from excellent content and knowledge. This podcast is unlistenable.

  • Annoying co-host

Cannot complete episodes because Alex interrupts and seems to lack self-awareness.

Wade is the one with the credibility and should find a different partner or go solo to explore these topics.

  • Great content but too much distraction

This podcast is 20% outstanding content and 80% Alex loudly rambling about things that are unrelated and distracting. If you could get that down below 50/50 it would be much easier to make it to the end. Case in point was the response to the REITS question in the last episode - just answer the question that was asked and allow Wade to share his knowledge. Wade is so knowledgeable and knows this stuff at a level that few others do - it’s a shame that listening to the rest of the podcast is so ... more

  • Go back to what was working

The content and guests are great and very useful. It is clear Wade has an enormous amount of subject matter expertise and can talk about almost any retirement topic. Alex used to prompt Wade to explain in practical terms the content and pushed to provide examples. The past few months Alex’s only role seems to be to try and tell jokes or share inside comments that are distracting at best. He interrupts the flow of conventions to try and interject, but he was better off and added much more val... more

Episode 196: RWS Live! With Bill Bengen: Part 1
Q: By how much would you immediately cut the withdrawal rate if inflation pops up like a few years ago?
If inflation goes to 4%, it's a modest change, but for 7-8% inflation, you might look to cut back substantially, perhaps even 20-30%.
Episode 196: RWS Live! With Bill Bengen: Part 1
Q: How would you redesign the first year withdrawal rule to reflect both longevity risk and personal inflation rates without overwhelming the average retiree with complexity?
The two most important factors in determining your withdrawal rate are the first 10 years of retirement's inflation rate and stock market valuation.
Episode 196: RWS Live! With Bill Bengen: Part 1
Q: What would your response be to somebody that says, I have three stocks, small cap, three stocks, large cap, and I should be good?
That's a risky approach, particularly if you have a concentrated investment strategy. Most people find picking individual stocks to be difficult and risky.
Episode 196: RWS Live! With Bill Bengen: Part 1
Q: Is the 4% rule still a constant?
The 4% rule was never intended as an immutable rule; it varies based on market conditions and historical contexts.
Episode 196: RWS Live! With Bill Bengen: Part 1
Q: If Bill sees inflation as a primary risk in retirement, would it be wise to allocate some of those intermediate-term government bonds into tips instead?
Yes, it definitely makes sense to have them almost all the time as a permanent allocation in your portfolio, particularly now with inflation being kind of dicey.
