  • Honest concise information

Andy does a great job providing information in a straightforward way. He has knowledge of a wide array of retirement related issues but is also very clear and honest when he doesn't have all the answers. I highly recommend.

  • Love the Podcast (and the dad jokes!)

Andy has been one of my go to podcast as I prepare for retirement. I’m planning to retire in September of this year. Definitely recommend listening to older episodes as they provide valuable insight on all retirement subjects…financial and non-financial. I’m a DIYer but if I were to pick an advisor, it would be Andy. Keep the dad jokes coming!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#191 - "Hot topics" edition...Andy and Jason Cutitta talk about inheritances, Die With Zero, TSP in-plan conversion, taking RMDs and MORE!
Q: What are the considerations for Roth conversions in the Thrift Savings Plan?
Consider taxes and if it's really going to benefit you; having options is generally better.
#191 - "Hot topics" edition...Andy and Jason Cutitta talk about inheritances, Die With Zero, TSP in-plan conversion, taking RMDs and MORE!
Q: What are your thoughts on how to view an inheritance in retirement planning?
It's subjective and not a sure thing; if it's going to move the pendulum in your plan, maybe consider it.
#188 - Q&A edition...Social Security spousal benefits, cognitive biases in investing, changing state tax domicile, naming minors as beneficiaries and MORE!
Q: I'm hoping you can provide feedback, not advice on my Social Security when I turn 67...
Your wife can't get just a spousal benefit off of yours and delay hers. There's now something called deemed filing.
#184 - Q&A edition...consolidating accounts, tax withholdings vs estimated payments, QLACs, the 4% rule and MORE!
Q: If I did a Roth conversion in January of $150,000 with no withholding, can I then do a $50,000 Roth conversion in December of that same year with 100 percent withholdings?
Yes, you can withhold the year's obligation late in the year, and there will not be underpayment penalty interest because that withholding is treated as if it happened equally throughout the year.
#184 - Q&A edition...consolidating accounts, tax withholdings vs estimated payments, QLACs, the 4% rule and MORE!
Q: Can I combine the two accounts?
Generally speaking, it doesn't make sense to leave 401ks behind unless you're trying to do backdoor Roth IRA contributions.
