  • Very good - Short but very informative and healing

I have only listened to two short podcasts and learned so much already like why my sister rages. I have wanted to know why but now see it was simply about transferring her stuff on me.

Also to stop trying to understand them and to focus on me.

    Thank you so much

  • Saved my life

I found your podcast during a very dark time in my life. Listening to you has made me realize the toxic situation I was in and that this wasn’t normal. I left my 14 year relationship with my two babies. We are safe and free. You probably saved my life because things were starting to get physical

    Thank you

  • Not worth your time

I gave this podcast 1 star because of several annoying things that get in the way of listening to content. First, it starts with an incredibly long and detailed advertisement of her services. Just no. Why not start with some interesting content to draw people in? But no. Second, audio quality sucks. It sounds like she is talking through a tin can. Unpleasant. Third, all kinds of unrelated background noises. Distracting and unpleasant. Fourth, the monotone. I’m falling asleep here. Fifth, the con... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

When Mental Illness Becomes an Excuse for Abuse
Q: Why do boundaries sometimes seem to make the abusive partner worse, and what does that reveal about the relationship?
Boundaries disrupt control. If the other person escalates as boundaries are set, it indicates the boundary is effective and they don't respect it, signaling a dysfunctional dynamic rather than a healthy disagreement.
When Mental Illness Becomes an Excuse for Abuse
Q: When does mental illness stop being an explanation and start being an excuse?
When harm becomes a repeated pattern without sustained work, accountability, or change, it becomes an excuse. Mental health can explain distress but cannot justify ongoing harm.
Wanting Them to Change Isn’t Abuse - Interview with Paul Colaianni
Q: When someone says they want their partner to change, how can you tell that this is genuine change versus a manipulation to regain control?
Genuine change is reflected in consistent actions over time, not just promises or temporary compliance. If the other person is willing to seek outside perspectives, take responsibility, and actually alter their behavior in real life, that's a sign of real change. Conversely, if they offer excuses, demand changes without changing their own behavior, or revert once the pressure subsides, it's not true change.
How Do I Stop Second Guessing Myself After Leaving an Abusive Relationship?
Q: What do I do when I feel guilty for setting boundaries?
Understand that the guilt is a learned alarm, and practice holding your boundaries regardless of the guilt that arises.
How Do I Stop Second Guessing Myself After Leaving an Abusive Relationship?
Q: What are some ways to regulate my nervous system when I'm triggered?
Engaging in grounding techniques like box breathing, physical movement, and sensory awareness can help regulate your nervous system.
