  • Indigenous Wisdom

Thank you for having Dr. Randy Woodley on the show to share Indigenous wisdom. I first heard you on the Bio Logos language of God podcast and immediately thought how Dr. Woodley‘s wisdom could fit into that conversation. Then I searched online and saw that you actually had done an interview with him!

  • A gem!

Refugia is a gem of a podcast! Debra hosts the conversations with an ease and curiosity that make for an enjoyable, familiar listening experience even as the topics are wide-ranging and thought-provoking.

Climate breakdown is a given (that acknowledgement in itself is encouraging - now we can get real). So how can people of faith think about and enact hope? Is there hope? What can we learn from pockets of resistance, diversity, and communal flourishing - refugia- where life persists even throu... more

  • Little Pockets: Refugia

I listened to this conversation about little pockets of refugia, and micro-counter cultural spaces while running around Margaret Island on a Saturday morning. The island plays the role of a refugium for me while temporarily living in Budapest, so it was a fitting place to listen in on a thought-provoking introduction to an important and timely topic. Five stars, highly recommend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Refugia Podcast Episode 39
Q: What do you think are your biggest obstacles and your biggest joys in your work right now?
Biggest obstacle is the either/or mindset among some Christians regarding social actions. Joy comes from seeing more collaboration and acknowledgment of environmental issues in faith communities.
Refugia Podcast Episode 39
Q: Could you talk a little bit about how you've seen Laudato si diffuse through the Catholic Church, especially the American Catholic Church?
Laudato si has had a complicated journey in the US; while warmly received worldwide, it struggles with strong ideological divides here.
Refugia Podcast Episode 38
Q: What advice would you have for other churches that struggle with that boutique issue problem?
The strength of the PCUSA certification process is vital as it requires all committees to be involved in setting goals related to creation care, thereby integrating it into the church's operational structure.
Refugia Podcast Episode 38
Q: What was that spark point for Traverse City Presbyterian?
The spark came from a church member inviting Linda to lead a non-political session on climate action that generated significant interest and led to the formation of a creation care team.
Refugia Podcast Episode 32
Q: So talk about the passport to climate justice. This was a genius idea. So describe what that was and how it worked.
Judy describes the passport initiative as a way to engage the congregation in climate actions during Lent, encouraging at least 21 actions over a seven-week period.
