Why Filmmakers Sacrifice Themselves for a Music Video
Q: What were your references for this?
We used Frame Set as a reference board and drew from Westerns and Hungarian historical cinema, especially the Easterns tradition, to shape the look and feel while keeping it rooted in Hungarian storytelling.
How Director Josh Cohen Made Impossible Shots That Look Expensive
Q: Gotcha. How much time did you guys have with Gordon?
They had a whole day with Gordon Ramsay, which allowed for multiple setups across three sets and still left time for social shoots and still photography, with an organized AD ensuring quick resets between setups.
How Megan Tan Shot a Commercial in One Day
Q: How does this shoot compare to your YouTube filmmaking process?
Megan explains that YouTube videos are essentially short films requiring scripting, shot lists, and clear communication, and that the on-set process scales up with more departments and people, but the core principles—planning, references, and strong collaboration with the DP—remain the same.
How Megan Tan Shot a Commercial in One Day
Q: What were the biggest challenges on set and how did you solve them?
The team tackled budget constraints by using practical effects (split diopter, acrylic sheet reflections, ceiling-level lighting) and a small skeleton crew for efficiency, coordinating talent who weren't professional actors, and solving on-the-fly issues like cooling ice cream for a visually Argentinian look.
How Megan Tan Shot a Commercial in One Day
Q: Give me some brief context. Was this a spec spot? What brought this project to life?
Lexar approached Megan to create an Instagram reel that evolved into a full production with an Argentinian football angle, driven by a storytelling concept about what makes a champion. The shoot expanded from a social reel to a complete production supported by a local studio, 2117 Productions, in Malaysia.
