Twelve-year-old McKay Everett disappeared from his Texas home in September 1995. His father Carl returned from an Amway meeting to find the back door ajar and the telephone ringing. On the line, a woman with a raspy voice demanded $500,000. Over the next week, the FBI played a game of cat-and-mouse with the kidnappers, who used inside information to stay one step ahead of the investigation. Ultima... more

  • Great

Great telling of this story! My only complaint is the ad for security systems. They make it seem like nothing bad will happen if you buy one.

  • Captivating

This show was so well done. I was three years older than McKay and grew up in Conroe, so I remember when this happened, knew the locations discussed, am friends with many featured in the show, and my mother is buried near McKay. I always visit his grave when I visit my mother’s. Still, I learned new things about the case. Strongly recommend. And continued prayers for peace and comfort for Ms. Paulette.

  • Extremely well researched and written

Although this story was very sad even being told 28 years hence, it was quite addictive, pardon the pun. Art Rascone’s voice is well suited to telling this story. Very well done. I enjoyed listening.

  • Rushed release?

The beginning of EVERY SINGLE EPISODE is choppy and the transcript rarely matches up to the audio. Cool story, but make sure your stuff is quality before putting it out.

Q: What's the best piece of communication advice you've ever heard or received?
Your voice is an instrument. Play all of the songs that are trapped within you. Don't die with all your music trapped inside.

Q: Did this case change you in any way or kind of the way, you know, you looked at people that your children interacted with?
I don't think so. I think that you will find law enforcement officers in general become very skeptical and security conscious early on in their career and stay that way for the rest of their lives.

Q: What was your experience getting the polygraph like?
I knew what it was. It was, look, I'm the one that needs to write my own podcast, okay? It wasn't my first polygraph where I had done nothing. But I knew what it was about.
BONUS: How the FBI Decides When to Arrest
Q: Can you explain your thought process during the McKay Everett case?
My job was to provide legal advice and monitor the situation closely, ensuring we addressed probable cause for arrest while prioritizing the child's safety.
