Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S5 Ep 47: "This is Taste" Host Matt Rodbard; losing restaurant discovery, NYC vs LA, relying on algorithms and Sex & The City
Q: How do you approach selecting underrated restaurants, and why is it important to spotlight them?
Underrated restaurants are those still doing great work but not in the media spotlight; highlighting them helps preserve a diverse food culture, supports operators, and reminds audiences that worth exists beyond the most-talked-about spots.
S5 Ep 48: Comedian & food tv host Daniel Geneen. Sober dates, Michelin "formula" & awkward moments
Q: What inspired your Tabasco factory episode and why did it perform so well?
I love factories and How It's Made, and the Tabasco episode clicked because of a combination of a compelling thumbnail, engaging on-camera interactions, and a clear, visual demonstration of how the product is made, which kept viewers hooked.
S5 Ep 48: Comedian & food tv host Daniel Geneen. Sober dates, Michelin "formula" & awkward moments
Q: What year did that happen, and how did the opportunity with Eater unfold?
That shift happened around five to six years ago, as I was transitioning from other media work to creating food-focused content for Eater, which then expanded into my own show concepts.
S5 Ep 48: Comedian & food tv host Daniel Geneen. Sober dates, Michelin "formula" & awkward moments
Q: How did you get linked up with Eater to create this show that you did?
I had started as a producer and host for various food pieces, and after pitching, I ended up taking over Eater's podcast content, which evolved into Dan Does and other formats, building credibility and audiences along the way.
S5 Ep 46: Selling out, breaking toxic kitchen cycles & viral food with Chef Sam Braverman of Lori Jayne
Q: What lessons did you take away from the Time Out Market experience?
The team learned about the importance of proper kitchen infrastructure, scalable systems, and the need to protect brand integrity, leading to plans for independent growth and a safer, more controllable concept in the future.
