  • A very good podcast on Japan.

This pod is what others on Japan aspire to. Less about the personality, more about the culture (Pop and otherwise) - It has been going a while but hasn’t lost any of it’s steam, ideas still bubble up and it’s refreshing good. It’s certainly now my go to. more

  • Great podcast about Japanese pop Culture

Reminds of my days living in Japan. These two are deeply embedded in the culture and give us great insight into what’s happening over there. Well done and professional!

  • Great podcast

I only started listening to Tokyoscope a few weeks ago, but have already listened to every episode of their back catalogue. I find both host extremely knowledgeable, and funny while keeping us up to date on Japanese pop culture. As a person who’s life long dream is to one day visit Japan, I really appreciate hearing about it through my headphones every week.

  • Unfortunate blind spots, older hosts

Two recent episodes in a row the hosts were more fired up about “Instagram culture” than they were of the misogyny that leads grown men to “upskirt” the statues at the Studio Ghilbi / Aichi theme park. They were genuinely surprised that the public was upset at the individuals or that the park would be expected to do more to combat sexism. One of the hosts took a moment to ponder if the statues had panties. Just so bizarre in 2023.

  • Fascinating deep dive into otakudom!

Matt and Patrick are hilarious and way too knowledgeable about everything otaku and Japan—even people who aren’t in love with Japanese subcultures will enjoy it.
