Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

NZ Herald: Creatine craze sweeps NZ gyms - but is it safe?
Q: Is creatine hype or is it actually beneficial for non-athletes and the brain?
The guest emphasizes that while not every claim is proven, there is credible evidence for brain-related benefits and safety in adults, with ongoing research and some striking findings like sleep improvements and mood-related effects.
#23 Eye Health, Metabolism & Modern Optometry with Ryan O'Connor
Q: What is the potential risk or concern with GLP-1 agonists in diabetics regarding eye health?
There is a discussion about optic neuropathy risks with GLP-1 agonists, including non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy, and how these risks need to be weighed against metabolic benefits when treating diabetics.
Paul Taylor Podcast: Choose your hard: Science-backed strategies to thrive in a difficult world, with Emeritus Professor Grant Schofield
Q: What role does agency play when facing serious health diagnoses or life stress?
Agency empowers people to take proactive steps, seek information, and implement strategies like fasting or targeted exercise, turning a difficult situation into a platform for positive change rather than defeat.
Paul Taylor Podcast: Choose your hard: Science-backed strategies to thrive in a difficult world, with Emeritus Professor Grant Schofield
Q: How should people think about dopamine in daily life and against easy versus hard dopamine?
Hard dopamine from disciplined activities creates a more durable sense of reward with fewer rebounds, whereas easy dopamine from junk foods or mindless scrolling can dysregulate the brain's reward system and reduce overall satisfaction over time.
Paul Taylor Podcast: Choose your hard: Science-backed strategies to thrive in a difficult world, with Emeritus Professor Grant Schofield
Q: Why is movement the first truth in your seven truths, and how should people approach movement for healthspan?
Movement is the easiest, most understandable way to trigger hormesis and allostasis, training the body to anticipate and adapt to stress. A balanced approach includes aerobic work, strength training, and mobility to preserve functional capacity and prevent loss of independence with age.
