  • Ditto great guests, painful interviews

Wonderful guests with painful interviewing. The interviewer talks incredibly slowly, has no sense in line of questioning and generally no chemistry with the guests. My non-riding husband could do a better job. Interviewing with a more unique perspective. Plus the sound is often terrible. Do better PH!

  • Great guests, painful interviews

The quality of guests and the info they have to share is super. The skills of the interviewer are at times painful. It shows what a skill good interviewing is and how much it can impact a podcast.

  • Too one sided

I’ve listened to all the episodes and there’s a lack of balance between the interviewer and guest. The guest will speak for long periods of time without any interaction with the interviewer. I thought this would be more conversational like Terry Gross on Fresh Air. And the same question is often asked, “what would you tell your younger self?” Maybe this is intended but without any interjection by the interviewer, some of the guests tend to drone on. The interviewer needs to actively partic... more

  • Jimmy Wofford , hero horseman!

Thank you for a wonderful podcast with Jimmy Wofford! I so enjoyed the opportunity to clinic with him in the 70’s & 80’s riding a Nez Pierce Appaloosa . Fun to know his mother had bought him one too! That appy made me one clever rider and Jimmy always had a nice thing to say about our partnership.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tommy Greengard
Q: How do you handle disappointments or setbacks in the sport?
Tommy emphasizes staying objective, surrounding oneself with honest advisors, and interpreting setbacks as feedback that can guide better decisions and timing about when to push forward or step back.
Tommy Greengard
Q: Can you talk about some of the most important wins in your career thus far?
He notes early wins on Joshua MBF as pivotal, marking his first FEI wins, and explains how those successes built confidence and shaped the trajectory for future horses and European exposure.
Tommy Greengard
Q: Awesome. Yeah, it seemed like really great results with your two horses there. And with eventing, why did you gravitate towards that discipline?
Tommy explains growing up in an eventing barn that emphasized multiple disciplines, with a primary focus on dressage and eventing, while still admiring the hunters for their precision and flow.
Amanda Steege
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
Don't get wrapped up in perfection or trying to please everyone; rely on a strong team and trust the process, recognizing horses have individual timelines and require patient, athlete-focused care.
Amanda Steege
Q: What is your training philosophy?
Training centers on the horse's whole body, strong flat work, gymnastics, and ensuring the team around the horse—farrier, vet, chiropractor, etc.—works cohesively to address physical balance and prevent issues.
