Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Plaidchat: Trust Fall & Dr. Joseph Wakshlag on CBD in horses
Q: What is a barrier to these studies? Are they currently being worked on and they're just not done yet? Do they need funding? Do they need horses? What's a barrier to getting there?
Dr. Wakshlag mentions that funding is the primary barrier, and also the taboos surrounding hemp products complicate research.
The Plaidchat: Trust Fall & Dr. Joseph Wakshlag on CBD in horses
Q: When we think about guidelines and think about regulation of all of this stuff, when we don't really know quantity, we don't know amounts that have any impact, and we don't know what exists, I mean, to me as a researcher, I mean, the place to start would be to do research, not to regulate.
Dr. Wakshlag agrees, emphasizing the need for thorough pharmacokinetic studies to understand appropriate dosing and safety for CBD in horses.
The Plaidchat: Trust Fall & Dr. Joseph Wakshlag on CBD in horses
Q: Can you start by explaining to us very basically how CBD works and how it breaks down and how this process is seen from a biological standpoint?
Dr. Wakshlag explains that CBD comes from the hemp plant and it gets absorbed by the horse's system, breaking down in the liver and usually eliminated within eight to twelve hours after administration.
Plaidcast in Person with Dr. Monica Halem & Tonya Johnston, MA by Taylor, Harris Insurance Services
Q: Can you speak to the importance of skincare screening?
Melanoma can appear anywhere. The ABCDEs of melanoma involve looking for asymmetry, border, color, diameter, and evolution.
Plaidcast in Person with Dr. Monica Halem & Tonya Johnston, MA by Taylor, Harris Insurance Services
