  • Great insights for bootstrapped founders

Really enjoying all of the episodes I’ve heard so far, and Greg does a great job of finding interesting founders to share their stories. I just wish he wouldn’t talk over the guests; it can make it hard to hear what is being said.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#197: Scaled His Niche Vertical SaaS ERP with Growth Equity - Marc Sanderson
Q: What advice would you have for founders starting out who see deep problems and now envision someday building a software company?
Treat the growth journey as a marriage with your partners: perform due diligence, introduce your leadership team to potential partners, test the relationship with trial exercises, clarify pricing and packaging, and ensure education and customer onboarding are central so you can prove value early and sustain momentum.
#195: Built a Calm, Profitable SaaS—Then Sold It on His Terms - Andy Alsop
Q: What were the critical steps to prepare for the sale?
We maintained squeaky-clean books with a fractional CFO, avoided any financial red flags, and vetted the buyer by talking to other acquired CEOs to confirm what the integration would look like and that there would be continuity for employees and customers.
#195: Built a Calm, Profitable SaaS—Then Sold It on His Terms - Andy Alsop
Q: What stood out about the buyer and the integration plan?
The buyer's leadership was forthright and respected the existing team; they wanted to integrate carefully without shocking the system, keeping The Receptionist team intact and moving customers and employees smoothly to Sign In's platform.
#195: Built a Calm, Profitable SaaS—Then Sold It on His Terms - Andy Alsop
Q: What made you decide to sell, and why did you choose the buyer?
I wasn't actively seeking a sale; we were growing and profitable, and the acquisition came as Sign In pursued us. I looked for a good home for the company and ensured it would preserve the culture and benefits we built for employees and customers.
#194: Why Selling Your Company Can Be a Growth Strategy - Sharon Nouh
Q: What prompted the decision to sell the company, and what did that unlock for the founder?
Selling to ISH enabled a strategic expansion into the UK and provided capital to accelerate growth while the founder shifted to an advisory/product leadership role, preserving the product vision and legacy.
