Burnout Will Kill Your Business as Fast as Bankruptcy — with Danielle Hendon
Q: What steps can a drowning-law-firm owner take right away to get out of the hole?
Start by tracking time and costs, perform a break-even analysis, and use a simple structure like the rule of thirds to separate revenue, cost of revenue, and operating expenses, then consider delegating to improve margins.
Burnout Will Kill Your Business as Fast as Bankruptcy — with Danielle Hendon
Q: Do you find it difficult to talk about money with lawyers?
Yes, money conversations are rare and often uncomfortable, but Danielle emphasizes the need for a partner who can bring clarity and support, not judgment, to help firms monetize their work.
ICU Nurse. Big Law Attorney. Now Building the Life She Actually Wants
Q: How did you redefine your career path after leaving Big Law?
I leaned into a portfolio approach that combines clinical insight with legal thinking. I started an advisory and consulting practice focused on clinical workforce transformation and quality improvement, and I co-founded a brain-capital nonprofit. Through therapy, coaching, and mindfulness, I learned to align work with my core values and to help others do the same.
ICU Nurse. Big Law Attorney. Now Building the Life She Actually Wants
Q: I would love if you would take our listeners back a little bit, because you are a former ICU nurse, turned attorney, turned entrepreneur. How did you decide to pursue law after nursing?
I shifted after a moment on the Ethics Committee where a brain death policy was being discussed; I saw how critical communication between disciplines could be. I shadowed a health-law program, chose a local law school with a health-law focus, and began law school while still nursing part-time, driven by the desire to solve healthcare problems more systemically.
The People Pleaser's Guide to Quitting: How to Have the Breakup Conversation with Your Law Firm
Q: How do you coach women to know they can go solo and build a life and career that align with what they want?
She describes a process starting with a consult, evaluating current work-life balance, income, and the feasibility of solo practice, followed by hands-on coaching on business setup, mindset, and first-month support to ease the transition.
