  • Missed a golden opportunity

2/24/21 update: Wow, totally missed an opportunity with hosting Warby Parker, just letting Neil give you a commerical about all the things that they did for COVID. How they approached COVID is yesterday's news, got to be like Gretsky and go where the puck is going to be, not where it is. Could have been asking things about how they determined their price points, decided on materials they used, how they sourced their frames, how they market both in social and traditional media, how they are us... more

The $1,000 Revenue Per Patient Model: Building a Specialty-Driven Practice | Dr. Patricia Poma
Q: Patricia, how did you zoom in on each specialty and build ambassadors for those areas within the practice?
She describes creating go-to ambassadors for each specialty, training them, and giving them scripts and checklists so patients can be guided through the appropriate care paths, which helps scale expertise without the doctor needing to be involved in every detail.
The $1,000 Revenue Per Patient Model: Building a Specialty-Driven Practice | Dr. Patricia Poma
Q: Did you know what business model you wanted to follow, or did you discover it over time?
Patricia explains that she started with a private practice mindset and gradually built a specialty-driven model by aligning services like vision therapy, dry eye, and myopia management with sustainable systems and a patient-centric culture, rather than trying to do everything at once.
The AI-Driven Patient Journey Every Practice Needs: Transforming Information into Outcomes
Q: How can AI balance personalization with maintaining trust in the clinician?
AI should extend the doctor's guidance, present approved information, and require guardrails so it never replaces professional judgment, instead it prepares and informs patients for a productive in-person visit.
The AI-Driven Patient Journey Every Practice Needs: Transforming Information into Outcomes
Q: What would a truly modern pre-visit experience look like in an optometric practice?
A pre-visit experience would gather lifestyle and usage data, present tailored questions, and store patient responses so the doctor can have a more meaningful chair discussion, with AI surfacing the most relevant options and questions.
Artificial Intelligence in Eye Care: What's Real, What's Overhyped & How to Evaluate It | Eugene Shatsman & Abed Sarhan
Q: What should clinicians ask when evaluating AI tools for their practice?
Clinicians should demand explanations of how decisions are made (avoid black-box models), demo the tool in their clinic for a period, assess data integration with their EMR, and verify robustness across devices, accents, and real-world conditions.
