  • Great for the sport!

Love the enthusiasm and better than the US based main athletics podcasts. Would rather listen to Podium even though I am in US. No politics just athletics! Thank you!!

  • wOw!

Big thanks to Podium. After the ‘nonsense’ of a certain co-owner of a US-based website’s track podcast, this is a breath of fresh air. Loved the two athlete interviews I listened to thus far.

Adding to an earlier review (above). Still enjoying it. But I could use a little less ‘where were you this weekend?’, especially if it was a cricket or tennis match, at the beginning of the pod. And, also, please cut back on the gratuitous cackling.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Round-Up | Jake Wightman joins as guest contributor, Shanghai Diamond League review
Q: What have you seen from her in terms of her improvements over the past few seasons?
Jake comments on the progression, noting improved consistency, confidence and tactical growth, with a focus on developing a long-term plan and navigating the transition from junior to senior competition.
Yared Nuguse | Olympic bronze medallist
Q: You mentioned aiming to cement yourself as a top runner again after missing Worlds last year. How do you plan to peak for major events later in the season?
Focus on rhythm and consistency across races, choosing strategic Diamond Leagues, and saving peak energy for the World Champs Ultimate and Road World Championships, with the end goal of a strong finish and a good send-off in the final road race of the year.
Max Burgin | British 800m champion
Q: How has training with your dad as coach influenced your development and performance?
Training with my dad has given me stability and a consistent coaching approach rooted in family support; it has allowed me to tailor sessions to my strengths, focus on race-pace specificity, and build a unique training culture that keeps me confident in my abilities during big races.
Max Burgin | British 800m champion
Q: How do you approach training when preparing for a Diamond League race vs a time-trial style race?
Diamond League races are often treated like a fast-time trial with a strong pack, so the emphasis is on maintaining race pace and managing speed while staying tactically flexible; training reflects that with targeted sessions that mirror the pace and energy systems needed. For time-trial style races, the focus is more on physical readiness and hitting a precise pace comfortably.
Max Burgin | British 800m champion
Q: What's your pacing philosophy for 800m races, and how do you plan to go through the first lap?
I'd like to go through the first lap slightly faster, aiming for an aggressive but sustainable pace that allows me to stay with the leaders, then assess and respond in the second lap based on the race dynamics and the field, ensuring I'm not just opening up too early but staying mentally and physically prepared to strike if the opportunity presents itself.
