I have an issue with the episode that began with the acknowledgment of the passing of Roy Ayers, Angie Stone & Dwayne Wiggins. Journalist turned journalism prof here, so I have to correct the naming of the “media” as the Third Estate. The press - via the First Amendment - is referred to as the FOURTH ESTATE and is the considered the watchdog of the other three - which is why Trump and crew push so hard to discredit it. Please don’t do the same. Media is how info gets to people (air waves, print,... more

  • Almost there.

Great show, but I prefer when there are four hosts and especially when the ladies are in. I often question Myles’s takes, especially in terms of the criticism surrounding politics that he may not be an expert of. At times, I think there is far too much generalization of Black and queer experiences, which may leave folks feeling alienated. His candor is deeply appreciated. The progressive expertise offered by Deray and De’Ara set the stage for action in real-time, from elections to demonstrations... more

The Evolution of Black Literacy w/ Derek W. Black
Q: Can you help people understand the argument about the relationship between anti-literacy laws and the fear of white people?
There's a couple of things going on. One is this fear of the outsider and the idea that outsiders are stirring up trouble. But then they also want to control access to information. It wasn't until black intellectualism began to be recognized that anti-literacy laws were enacted seriously.

Ebonee traveled to Ghana in search of identity and was deeply moved by the experience, wanting to bring others from the Diaspora to understand their roots and feel that sense of assurance.
Ebonee Davis on Collective Identity
Q: What made you think that now was the time to translate your experiences into a book?
Ebonee felt a calling to write due to her deep emotional experiences and the importance of sharing her journey. Writing was not a choice, but rather a necessity for her expression.
