  • Slow down and listen

Love the depth and invitation to reflect. Don’t miss the considered discussion of Pope Leo. Very different vibe to PSA.

  • Generally love the show, the religion episode(s) not so much

I started this review with another religious episode and didn’t post. It is applicable to the current episode. This was a tough listen-it’s like someone trying to sell me some sort of icky-ness wrapped up in an advanced vocabulary. It was exactly right that we may want to “believe” because the human condition is hard in many ways but that is different from reality. No thanks. Also, yes democrats need to elect leaders that protect contraception, abortion access, and same sex marriage, full

  • Echo chamber

I fear that the dramatic monologue about how Mark Zuckerberg was finally held accountable is not going to age well; I hope I’m wrong. I can hear your contempt and disdain for those who aren’t swallowing this cherry-picked narrative - it doesn’t feel like any consideration of opposing viewpoints are done in good faith. You are just taking the lead from legacy media - I thought as independent journalists you would do better, go deeper, but I think you’re losing the plot…

  • Deeppak Chopra, Really?

Why are you interviewing this man? What kind of “spiritual leader” asks a convicted sex offender to “brings girls?” Just gross to see him being interviewed here.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Screens Have Warped Morality
Q: What concrete steps can individuals take to resist cynicism and engage more responsibly online?
Suggestions include digital Sabbaths, limiting screen time, treating people as humans rather than characters, questioning motivations, and building media literacy to discern signals from noise; small, consistent actions matter at scale.
How Screens Have Warped Morality
Q: How do two-way screens change our sense of reality, and why is this change important for democracy?
The guest explains that interactive screens transform how we relate, blur line between living and performing, and create new challenges for civic engagement; entertainment can be good for democracy, but passive consumption undermines active participation.
How Screens Have Warped Morality
Q: Why was propranolol your entry point for discussing this topic, and what does it tell us about medicating ourselves in a performance-driven culture?
Megan explains that stage fright and the pressure to perform are widespread and relatable; beta blockers symbolize how people self-medicate to cope with a culture that treats life as a performance, reflecting broader issues of authenticity and self-presentation in the internet era.
Healing Our Broken Brains
Q: Walk us through the strongest argument for the case you're making.
Newport outlines a multi-decade view: digital devices and social media have engineered a culture of constant partial attention, which reduces sustained cognitive effort and deep processing. While AI can augment tasks, overreliance on it risks hollowening critical thinking unless we prioritize practices that require effort, like reading and writing, and implement targeted institutional changes.
What We Lose When We Bet on War
Q: What has surprised you about the growth and governance of these markets, and how do regulators view them?
Growth has been rapid, with platforms expanding from academic experiments to billion-dollar businesses with varying regulatory approaches. Kalshi tends to push for regulatory approval and safer partnerships, while Polymarket has been more willing to take risks. regulators have fluctuated under different administrations, with debates over whether insiders and market data should be allowed and how to prevent manipulation or harmful outcomes.
