  • Press under Pressure

Your most recent post reminded me of how Mary Louise Kelly of NPR handled Mike Pompeo in January 2020. It’s worth reviewing. She held her own, and NPR backed her up. While the press doesn’t want to be the news, it must stay strong or we lose the power of knowledge. Thank you for highlighting this topic.

  • So many ads just disgusting. Also she is pretty much a centrist. She just had a guest on that was bragging about the job CBS is doing in their news lol.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump’s Perverted Justice
Q: Can you explain why the seashell post was charged as a threat to the president and whether there is any substantive legal basis for that charge?
The guests discuss that the seashell post, even if framed as a threat, relies on a high bar for proving intent and actual likelihood of harm; they argue that the First Amendment protections and true threats doctrine make it unlikely such a post could sustain a conviction, especially given the lack of concrete evidence of real intent to harm.
The President and The Press
Q: How has the week unfolded for media and the administration's relationship with journalists?
The hosts and guests describe an escalating pattern where the administration targets journalists through rhetoric, regulatory threats, and lawsuits, while journalists advocate for solidarity and legal protections to sustain independent reporting.
Trump’s Unholy War Against the Church
Q: What is the Pope's role in this political conflict, and how are Catholic voters responding?
The guests describe the Pope as a moral voice who contrasts Trump's approach, potentially influencing Catholic voters who value peace and humanitarian concerns, though the Catholic vote remains complex and swingy.
MAGA Turns on The Mad King
Q: Do you think the ceasefire offers real relief or is it merely a pause in hostilities?
The guests suggest it could be a fragile, short-term window that requires concrete field actions and logistics to ensure safe evacuation and replenishment for seafarers, otherwise it may quickly unravel.
Trump’s War of Choice Against Iran (w/ Rachel Maddow)
Q: What practical steps can Congress take to force a more transparent discussion and accountability for this war.
Use War Powers resolutions, demand hearings, and press for a public debate and votes to restore congressional oversight over the use of military force.
