  • Lost the magic

Day 1 listener, disappointed with the turn the show has taken. The old format and hosts were engaging, fun, and felt like they brought something truly unique and needed to news media. Jane’s hosting - especially the overemphasis on sports (when this show used to be a safe space from bro culture) - has reduced my listening from an eager 5 days a week to a reluctant 1-2. The only thing keeping me from unsubscribing is the hope that we will get a new host soon.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump’s Vibing Approach To Governing
Q: How does he get his base to buy in? And how should Democrats respond?
Keith Edwards emphasizes the importance of repetition, branding, and storytelling to build name ID and maintain engagement, while suggesting Democrats should learn from Trump by being clearer about the why behind policies, and by crafting compelling narratives that resonate beyond the base.
Hegseth Hits The Hill
Q: What are the biggest concerns about Hegseth and the Pentagon beyond the Iran war?
Crow and the host discuss issues like leadership turnover, the role of religious rhetoric in the Pentagon, the risk to civilian control, and the broader strategic accountability of military decisions.
Hegseth Hits The Hill
Q: What exactly is this cost to the American people, and how much are we spending daily?
Crow highlights a range between $1.5 to $2 billion per day in munitions costs, emphasizing the enormous ongoing expenditure and its implications for taxpayers.
Kash Grabs Trump’s Defamation Playbook
Q: Do you think the media is learning that readers don't want outlets to give in and bend the knee?
Yes, the guest argues that outlets with strong independent editorial leadership often push back against political pressure, suggesting that readers value rigorous journalism over capitulation.
Can Jared Kushner Negotiate Peace And Still Make Money?
Q: I know that this seems like kind of an obvious question, but can we just talk about those conflicts of interest?
Judd Legum explains that Kushner's simultaneous roles as a private investor and a negotiator raise serious questions about whether his actions serve American interests or his private wealth, and he outlines how current legal frameworks might address or fail to address such conflicts.
