  • Lost the magic

Day 1 listener, disappointed with the turn the show has taken. The old format and hosts were engaging, fun, and felt like they brought something truly unique and needed to news media. Jane’s hosting - especially the overemphasis on sports (when this show used to be a safe space from bro culture) - has reduced my listening from an eager 5 days a week to a reluctant 1-2. The only thing keeping me from unsubscribing is the hope that we will get a new host soon.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is Social Media Hype Even Real?
Q: What exactly is clipping and how does it work?
Clipping involves agencies supplying clips to squads of young clippers who post the clips in various formats using many fake or normal-looking accounts to simulate organic interest, which tricks algorithms into amplifying the content.
Is Social Media Hype Even Real?
Q: How did you first realize something was off about what went viral online?
Brown describes noticing unusual patterns in music and film clips that surged without clear origin, leading him to investigate clipping and its role in manufacturing virality.
Democrats' Platner Problem
Q: What do you think Platner needs to do if he wins tomorrow to win over main voters in the general with all of this still swirling?
He needs to acknowledge past missteps more credibly, address ongoing concerns about trust, and demonstrate tangible change that resonates with voters beyond superficial apologies, while leveraging his charisma and local credibility to appeal to a broad base.
The CBS News Crisis
Q: Can you give us a quick background of what led to the CBS News meeting and what was happening before that?
Barr explains a year-and-a-half of destabilization starting with a Trump lawsuit against CBS, followed by a sale to Skydance, resignations in anticipation of a settlement, and the eventual appointment of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief; all of these events set the stage for the confrontational meeting between Pelley and Bilton and the broader staff upheaval.
Are The Killer Robots Inevitable?
Q: How is AI being used by the US military today?
AI is a general-purpose technology used across back-office tasks, intelligence processing, and battlefield applications to speed up decision-making and increase accuracy, while addressing data and information bottlenecks.
