  • Lost the magic

Day 1 listener, disappointed with the turn the show has taken. The old format and hosts were engaging, fun, and felt like they brought something truly unique and needed to news media. Jane’s hosting - especially the overemphasis on sports (when this show used to be a safe space from bro culture) - has reduced my listening from an eager 5 days a week to a reluctant 1-2. The only thing keeping me from unsubscribing is the hope that we will get a new host soon.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will The Iran War Cost Trump The Midterms?
Q: Sarah, welcome to What A Day.
Thanks for having me. It's great to be here and talk through what voters are feeling about the Iran war and how it's shaping the midterms.
Trump's Latest Plot To Rig The Midterms
Q: What does Trump's determination to get this bill passed mean for November?
It signals an effort to frame the election as plagued by fraud and to justify stricter voting rules if Republicans regain power, while critics worry about disenfranchisement and the legality of changes.
Trump's Latest Plot To Rig The Midterms
Q: What is in this bill that Trump is so obsessed with?
It would tighten voter registration and voting requirements, including proof of citizenship and stricter rules for voting by mail, and it would be hard to pass given the Senate's lack of votes.
How Trump Is Betraying Black Soldiers
Q: What do you think will change if the current administration is no longer in power?
There is cautious optimism that stability and more equitable policies could return, allowing the military to re-emphasize merit, DEI initiatives, and the historical role of Black soldiers in mobility and national defense.
How Trump Is Betraying Black Soldiers
Q: What role do mentorship and intergenerational ties play in the decisions to stay or leave?
Mentorship and relationships built on base and during deployments are critical lifelines that enable career progression and provide a sense of belonging, so departures could reduce opportunities for younger soldiers and, potentially, the health of the institution.
