  • why her?

4 June 2025 - Did you really think I needed or wanted to listen to an interview with P.Hanson? Or does she just suit your agenda? Over-use of people like her is one big part of the reason legacy media is on the skids.

  • Music really distracting

Coming back after a break of not listening and the music is an unwelcome addition for me.. it’s often at odds with the story’s tone and sounds… royalty free. doesn’t hit the ‘NYT Daily’ balance that I feel like it’s trying to. I’d prefer no music - I’m engaged with just the guests & topics

  • Pollie interviews

Such a shame that you have started polluting a once great podcast with politicians.

We have enough of their input elsewhere. Please stick with the old format…

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

'Be sensible and keep your mouth shut': The private school facing allegations of control
Q: What kinds of control are described by former students and how did they manifest in daily life?
Accounts describe a pervasive, multi-layered control, including housing arrangements, decisions about university courses, dating, and even who could live with or move into a family home, all overseen or influenced by elders and church leadership.
'Be sensible and keep your mouth shut': The private school facing allegations of control
Q: Okay, let's start with the basics. What is Redeemer Baptist School and how is it connected to the church?
The school operates as part of a fundamentalist church community, with strong ties to the church leadership; however, the church maintains that they are separate entities and that the school's academic outcomes were strong, even as serious allegations emerged about control over students and staff.
Peter Hartcher on Australian nihilism, fear and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation
Q: What are Australians most afraid of according to the Lowy Institute poll?
Hartcher outlines fears including cyber attack, economic downturn, terrorism, and a US-China war—each contributing to a climate where populist rhetoric gains traction.
Starmer ousted: Why the British government is in turmoil
Q: What is the outlook for Andy Burnham as the potential next prime minister, and what challenges would he face?
Burnham is seen as an authentic North-of-Labour figure who could reconnect with ordinary voters, but he would confront significant constraints including a large national debt, fiscal limits, and the broader political volatility that has plagued the UK in recent years, potentially making it difficult to deliver bold left-leaning policy.
Starmer ousted: Why the British government is in turmoil
Q: Why did Keir Starmer resign, and what role did the Mandelson appointment play in his downfall?
Starmer's resignation followed sustained unpopularity and scandals, particularly around the Mandelson appointment, which media scrutiny framed as a misstep that amplified perceptions of him being out of touch and hindered by internal party dynamics.
