It wasn’t all clear and laid out when I learned piano chords. This episode goes through my journey (and what I learned the somewhat hard way) of figuring out piano chords.
I loved making this episode! I’m answering three specific questions a personal friend of mine asked! I apply the answers to a vocal perspective as well as playing piano by ear.
When playing by ear, it can be easy to start with the typical approach (sounding out the melody.) Here’s some insights on what you should really start with as well as some examples at the piano. Near the end, I explain a method to create any major sc... more

i’ve been trying to find a good piano podcast for a while and his one is perfect! couldn’t recommend it more. tysm for being so helpful to me!
It should be acknowledged that this is a religious podcast. I’m sure for those in church music this would be okay but don’t mislead people without this in your description please.
I wish I had access to this podcast 20 years ago! I was trained in classical piano for 14 years, then asked to play piano for our church’s worship team as a young adult. I was never trained in chords in all my years of piano lessons. Our worship pastor tried to help train & guide me in this transition & learning curve, but he wasn’t a pianist. Morgan’s methodical and encouraging approach will help anyone gain confidence if you’re in a similar situation. Great podcast!
Morgan is by far the most fun, engaging, inspiring, and innovative piano teacher I've ever seen. I don't even play piano, and yet I love this podcast! She connects with piano students of all ages. Morgan's stories of unique ways she's inspired kids who were reluctant learners, is nothing short of amazing... I'm sure parents just love her! I'll be listening to every episode... keep up the good work Morgan!
