Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Rebecca Blumenstein, President, Editorial, NBC News
Q: Can you take us back to the beginning of the book? At what point did you realize that what you had lived through, which was so extraordinary, and what happened to these women afterward was a story you really needed to tell?
Blumenstein says she became involved in evacuating people from Afghanistan after Kabul fell and was later put in charge of resettling 124 people in Houston. Hearing Afghan women describe the loss of education and opportunity made her feel an obligation to document their experiences and help them return to school.
Rebecca Blumenstein, President, Editorial, NBC News
Q: When you look back, you said you made different mistakes. Was there one decision or even a risk that sort of changed the trajectory of your career more than you realized it would at the time?
Blumenstein says becoming editor-in-chief of the Michigan Daily showed her that she enjoyed leading and bringing people together. Later, she repeatedly volunteered for difficult assignments, including covering Detroit and moving to China, even when she lacked relevant experience.
Martha Kempner • Writer & Sexuality Expert
Q: Do you have one piece of advice that has really helped you through your life and your career that you could please share with us?
Her advice is to never burn bridges and to nurture relationships, as her consulting career has thrived on following up and staying connected with people she has worked with over the years.
Martha Kempner • Writer & Sexuality Expert
Q: So how do you structure your day so you're able to do everything?
She explains the need to balance multiple clients, define flexible workloads, and leverage a network of long-standing relationships and ongoing projects to maintain a steady stream of work while managing family life.
Emily Burnett, Relevé
Q: How do you decide who the ambassadors are going to be for Relevé?
The brand selects women who stand for meaningful work in their communities, not traditional fashion influencers, seeking authentic alignment with foundations or arts and finance communities to drive a genuine, collaborative launch model.
