  • As a home builder, I love this podcast!

I’m hooked! I build with a production builder in DFW. When I found Brent on YouTube a few months back, my perspective was completely shifted. This podcast has really expanded my mind on what is possible not only in home building but in the future for my career. The guys provide phenomenal inspiration to me and have promoted me to expect and be expectant for more than where I am at now. Lord willing, I’ll be able to be involved in building meaningful and beautiful home in the near future!

  • Homeowners can learn a lot from this podcast

I own a historic home that we are slowly renovating and have been doing my homework—it’s a significant architectural home in our area and I don’t want to screw it up! I kept coming across Brent and Richard’s work during my research on historic mouldings and building materials, and found this podcast through that. It is giving me the knowledge and tools to go into conversations with my builder and architect more confident in the decisions I’m making, which are often more costly, but worth it for ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 124 Stains, Paints, & Finishes
Q: What are the practical differences between dyes and pigments in finishes?
Dyes are smaller color particles that color the wood more transparently and reveal the grain, while pigments are larger, more lightfast, and can hide grain better, leading to different visual outcomes on woods like maple or pine.
Ep. 113 Michael Burrey
Q: What are some key lessons in craftsmanship that you believe are being overlooked today?
Burrey emphasizes the importance of understanding practical geometry and traditional methods in building to improve craftsmanship quality.
Ep. 113 Michael Burrey
Q: How did your experiences as a child influence your career in craftsmanship?
Burrey's exposure to architecture through his father and a deep interest in traditional building methods sparked his passion for craftsmanship.
Ep. 110 Christine Frank: Architect
Q: Can you speak to as to why architects don't necessarily go the residential route as much as they try and chase the commercial route?
Many houses do not have an architect involved, as most homeowners go directly to a builder rather than an architect.
Ep. 110 Christine Frank: Architect
Q: How do we take it from where we are today to where we want to be, which is where the architect has a bigger hand involved?
I think having that team team up earlier in the process helps both with schedule, which has a monetary impact.
