  • How do you evolve?

Loved the framework for how do you evolve. Mindset required. A leader needs to have strong convictions but be ready to let go if /when new info comes along. Proactively seek out new info ALL the time…read voraciously, talk to customers, peers, network, direct reports, etc. be a sponge. High impact podcast David. Keep em coming!

Backing the outsiders most VCs ignore | Nick Moran - New Stack Ventures - Episode#107
Q: How do you evaluate that desire in early conversations with a founder?
By observing behavior during meetings and interviews, testing how founders pursue answers, and seeing how they sell themselves and engage with the business motivations, which helps separate those who will fight for the mission from those who won't.
Backing the outsiders most VCs ignore | Nick Moran - New Stack Ventures - Episode#107
Q: First question, right out of the gates, what is the one thing that you look for in founders or companies that you invest in?
Desire. It's a non-teachable trait that signals ambition, resilience, and the willingness to overcome obstacles, which Moran believes is more predictive of long-term success than raw technical prowess.
Backing Maniacs at Inception - What Investors Actually Look For | Jeff Becker - Antler - Episode#108
Q: How does the role of an investor differ from a founder's perspective on capital and liquidity?
Investors focus on the long-term fund performance and diversification, understanding that liquidity events shape portfolio outcomes, while founders need to manage capital to sustain growth and avoid dilution while navigating market dynamics.
Backing Maniacs at Inception - What Investors Actually Look For | Jeff Becker - Antler - Episode#108
Q: How does Antler determine when to invest after meeting founders?
Antler assesses both the room and the individuals; they look for a compelling, diverse, and high-potential group, then identify the strongest outliers within that group, often investing in week one or two based on conviction built from early interactions.
Backing Maniacs at Inception - What Investors Actually Look For | Jeff Becker - Antler - Episode#108
Q: What is the one thing you look for in founders you invest in?
The answer centers on a three-tier evaluation: the founder's psychology and how they describe themselves, their obsession and depth of problem ownership, and their execution speed and track record, with a strong emphasis on resilience and the ability to sustain effort.
