Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Winery Architecture: Function, Beauty & the Tension Between Them (with Mārtiņš Pīlēns)
Q: What is the one wine myth you would like to debunk in relation to architecture?
A good architecture does not guarantee good wine, and a bad architecture does not automatically produce bad wine; the two can be separate, and the experience should connect wine and space without assuming causation.
Planting Trees for Better Wine: Biodiversity, Balance & Profit (w/ Enrico Rivetto & Stefano Lorenzi)
Q: What species we usually want to plant within the vineyard and what species are maybe we avoiding to plant?
You have to see where you are because I'm a consultant for a lot of companies around Italy. And yes, it depends.
Planting Trees for Better Wine: Biodiversity, Balance & Profit (w/ Enrico Rivetto & Stefano Lorenzi)
Q: What do I do if that oak tree is growing in the most expensive vineyard?
Because sometimes you don't lose, because sometimes, for example, I think that Enrico can tell us, because I come from another wine region, near the Lake of Iseo, so it's a different situation.
Planting Trees for Better Wine: Biodiversity, Balance & Profit (w/ Enrico Rivetto & Stefano Lorenzi)
Q: What is agroforestry or should I say Viti forestry? So what it is?
Agroforestry is a way to keep again in the vineyard bushes or trees, because in the past was in this way. Now after 20 or 30 years where the people working in the vineyard try to keep away the trees and the other species, because they need more space for tractors, for have more efficiency in the working.
Wine Pros Discuss & Taste: BORDEAUX vs BURGUNDY (with Andrew Jefford & Aigars Nords)
Q: If Burgundy top wines become unreachable for all but the wealthiest collectors, could we see Bordeaux reconnect with drinkers?
There is potential for a rediscovery of Bordeaux due to the high prices of Burgundy and its accessibility, but Bordeaux needs to enhance its communication and connection with consumers.
