  • Used to be better

but has become a pay to play podcast, both for contributors and listeners so isn’t quite as good. Still the best wine podcast in English.

Y’all are sellouts to whomever sponsors your pod now. Y’all have changed. Yeah yeah, I hear what you say about your opinions regardless of sponsorship, but y’all have changed.

  • Battle of the Bubbles

I still believe unconscious bias occurred here. You can’t tell me predominantly British judges can’t tell a homegrown product over others. Despite the blind tasting it’s relatively easy to spot the difference.

  • Funny, informative and engaging

This wine podcast is fascinating, providing insights with a sense of humour. Each episode is engaging, the latest one on wine glasses and wine forgeries were notable in looking at the topics from all angles while drawing some great conclusions that an everyday wine drinker can take forward. Well done team - great series.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ARCHIVE TASTER: You asked, we answer!
Q: What's your take on New World Chardonnay value for money, and any specific bottle recommendations for Greg's interest in buttery Chardonnays?
They offer multiple tiers of buttery Chardonnay options from South Africa and New World regions, including Creation Chardonnay from South Africa and Bellingham Homestead Chardonnay, with notes on price points and how these fit into a Wine Festival Online case.
ARCHIVE TASTER: You asked, we answer!
Q: Finding wine in Dubai at a price you don't need a small mortgage for is tough; where would you recommend for a wine tasting holiday or experience?
Susie and Peter suggest destinations that offer a mix of tastings, education, and enjoyable experiences, such as Casablanca Valley in Chile, Rioja in Spain, and Santorini in Greece, highlighting accessibility, wine culture, and accompanying activities.
ARCHIVE TASTER: Paul Hobbs in California
Q: David asks about whether a single or multiple glassware options are better for wine tasting, given the practicality of home use.
Susie and Peter summarize that a single well-chosen glass can work just as well as multiple glasses, as long as it suits the wine and the user, and they emphasize buying enough of that glass to cover breakages and maintenance.
ARCHIVE TASTER: Singapore locks down
Q: What is your ideal quarantine wine?
Poh Tiong says his ideal quarantine option would actually be a single malt rather than wine, specifically Highland Park from the Orkney Isles, because it lasts longer and fits lockdown practicality.
ARCHIVE TASTER: Torn in the USA
Q: Hi Susie and Peter, could you give us an overview of red Lodi wines and recommendations within £7-£14?
We explain that Lodi has a storied history with Zinfandel and also a growing lineup of expressive reds from older vines and newer varieties. We select aBrazen old vine 2016 (around £12-£15 in the UK) as a top option, plus alternatives like Ojack Farm Vineyard Zinfandel and other value picks, and advise serving slightly chilled to balance alcohol and preserve fruit.
