  • Used to be better

but has become a pay to play podcast, both for contributors and listeners so isn’t quite as good. Still the best wine podcast in English.

Y’all are sellouts to whomever sponsors your pod now. Y’all have changed. Yeah yeah, I hear what you say about your opinions regardless of sponsorship, but y’all have changed.

  • Battle of the Bubbles

I still believe unconscious bias occurred here. You can’t tell me predominantly British judges can’t tell a homegrown product over others. Despite the blind tasting it’s relatively easy to spot the difference.

  • Funny, informative and engaging

This wine podcast is fascinating, providing insights with a sense of humour. Each episode is engaging, the latest one on wine glasses and wine forgeries were notable in looking at the topics from all angles while drawing some great conclusions that an everyday wine drinker can take forward. Well done team - great series.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Pays d'Oc Part 1 - Land of the Free
Q: How did Pays d'Oc IGP come to exist despite the crisis in Southern French wine?
It emerged from a collaboration between visionaries like Gravegeal and Scali, who embraced varietal wines and the branding power of grape varieties, inspired by California's regional approach, while aligning with French production and quality controls; the Chirac Plan helped replant with quality varieties and foster producer groups to support the shift.
The Judgement of Paris 50 Years On
Q: What was it like having a Hollywood portrayal of this event, with Chris Pine as you?
Bo Barrett describes it as surreal and a love story to California wine, emphasizing the intention to honor the collaborative, industry-wide spirit rather than single out any party.
Natural Wine RELOADED
Q: How do you see the future for natural wine in the global market?
The guests suggest a shift toward hybrids and natural-adjacent styles, broader branding narratives, and greater collaboration between sustainability, terroir storytelling, and consumer accessibility to avoid polarization.
Natural Wine RELOADED
Q: Simon, what are the most important aspects of natural wine for you?
Simon emphasizes farming quality as the foundation, stating that top-quality grapes with careful, low-intervention practices are essential, and that the wine should reflect place and craft rather than rely on additives.
Natural Wine RELOADED
Q: What even is natural wine these days?
The hosts acknowledge the term is contested and discuss how natural wine is defined more by farming practices (organic/biodynamic) and low intervention than by a single recipe, with a spectrum of practices across producers.
