Reviews

4.5 out of 5 stars from 44 ratings
  • Fantastic to have a podcast on Indigenous issues

Would prefer more actual stats and specifics on what indigenous groups are concerned and affected by an issue and how many agree or disagree on an issue. Words like some and many don’t really mean anything

  • Great coverage of issues

This is a very informative, well moderated podcast covering important Indigenous issues. I only give this 4 stars because I find the political panels are more about emphasizing repetitive political stances rather than learning about important issues, so I often find myself skipping through it.

Nunavut MP hopes to have more influence on government side

Idlout explains she expects easier access to ministers and a greater ability to influence decisions affecting Nunavut, with a focus on timely, positive outcomes for residents.
Auditor General questions why feds don't track progress
Q: What was wrong with the old funding system that they wanted to change?
The old system was characterized by short-term funding, heavy application burdens, and silos between programs, which hindered predictable planning and self-governance. The new approach bundles programs into longer, 10-year grants with more flexibility, but the effect hinges on robust ongoing monitoring and measurement of outcomes, which were lacking.
The next test for economic reconciliation is explored at Canada 2020 conference
Q: What was the hardest part of getting the deal through?
Establishing trust after decades with little to no engagement, plus the complexity of financing, legal, and tax considerations, required patient leadership to secure buy-in from both communities and the proponent.
The next test for economic reconciliation is explored at Canada 2020 conference
Q: What is economic reconciliation?
Economic reconciliation means understanding Indigenous worldviews and development priorities, ensuring environmental remediation and community-focused outcomes are front-loaded in projects rather than tacked on at the end.
First Nations look to flip the script on Canada's power buildout
Q: What did you make of the Crown consultation hub and Indigenous consultation per community?
The speaker sees it as a bare minimum approach that may delay timelines and questions who will be engaged, emphasizing the need for genuine, inclusive design of the consultation mechanism.
